80 MPH Speed Limits Coming to Idaho

UPDATE: The nannies that be have finally been beaten back. We are now at 80 MPH on our interstates (the new signs look fantastic!). You can now go from Southern UT to the Idaho/MT border 80 the whole way except through the larger cities.
Montana? Are you listening? They should be next in line.

Anyone get to stretch their legs when Montana's speed limit was "reasonable and prudent"?

I did, quite a bit. I was in Law School in north idaho (moscow) and trip to and from home was mostly in MT. I unfortunately did not have a bike at the time, but I had a little Acura Integra that would do about 130 topped out. I recall once being in a line of cars right at 100 mph and cruising past a state trooper in the median and no one slowed down. It was pretty surreal. Even the two lane non-divided highways were unlimited, which was pretty crazy. I don't think they had any increase in crashes, they only changed it back b/c the Feds forced them to or they'd lose road funding.

Some joker decided that he could also go at "speed of his choosing" inside a city limit. He challenged the R&P all the way up the chain (money and time, I guess) and got it overturned as too vague.

Recently was able to experience the western limits, all were fantastic changes of pace compares to illinois. Except Oregon. Seriously????? Goose Lake to Ontario Idaho was almost ruined by the 55 zone. Almost because I rarely observed it. Did not see a cop the entire way through Oregon. 55mph out there is just revenue generators.

I recall traveling at a "reasonable and prudent" speed through Nevada when on Spring Break from Utah State in 1973, enroute to southern CA. A 1964 Cutlass 442 can make pretty good time, under these circumstance, although a FJR can do better today. My problem was after crossing the California border somewhere around Baker. CA was not into 130 MPH speeds, and the CHP Mustang interceptors of the era could U-turn and catch a vehicle moving well north of 100 MPH like it was sitting still. Back in the day, a ticket was received, but it was minimized as long as you're not an asshole.

I drive about 20,000 miles a year on 1-75 in michigan. If I run 75 I get passed by every thing but a school bus. State police dont even blink at 75 anymore.
