Argh! Can't really blink/close my right eye (or do much of anything with the right side of my face). Have had this before, battled it for 20 years. This is probably my 6th time? I've lost count. It's always been on the heels of being sick--flu, strep, etc--and my immune system being run down.

Can't tape it shut either--depth perception, peripheral vision, etc.

I'm wondering if I can get a really dark shield and couple it with glasses . . .

Anyway, just needing some feejer owners to feel sorry for me right about now . . my new ride may not get ridden for a couple of months.

Bummer, GA. Just don't push it. Do like the rest of the injured flock do.. sit on the FJR in the garage and vroom vroom sounds while watching old episoded of Then Came Bronson. or something. Seriously, take some time. The scoot will be there for ya when you're ready. Heal up quick..

Thanks, I need a shoulder to cry on. Losing half your face seems like a small thing, but one never thinks about what it means not to be able to blink or squint--kind of puts a major damper on things that require good vision.

Actually it will give me some time to read "Proficient Motorcycling" which just came in the mail this week. I didn't realize just how wrong I had a lot of things--I consider myself very situational aware, but I don't think I had ever considered the proper techniques of "late apexing" on the street (that's the part I'm on now).

And, since I can't ride, I can spend the rest of my time lecturing you guys! :p

GA,

Just do what you have to do to heal and get back on the FJR after (the garage thing might be a good idea in the mean time).

Had a girlfriend walk out of the bathroom once saying that the water from brushing her teeth kept falling out of her mouth. I looked at her and thought she just had a stroke. My freaked out look freaked her out and off to the doctor we went.

Keep that eye lubed up and heal up my friend.

Ditto to all the above. Sounds like you're making the most of the down time though. I always enjoyed his articles in MCN, but never made time for the book.

Sorry to hear about the Bell's. That's not fun at all.

Remember, someone has to be top poster here, it might as well be you! Give TWN a run for his money and heal well.

I have been doing the one eye (ok 1 and 1/2 eye) thing since I was 15. I was in an accident (fishing of all things!!) lost vision and had my eye reconstructed. (parts is parts). I think you could do the dark shield or tape it down. Once you get used to it (taped down) I'll bet your'll be ok. Just dont do any track riding. I would go for the dark glasses/ helmet. Will your pupil still dialate? Mine will only work half way. the muscles from 10-2 never healed all the way so on a bright day my pupil is oblong.

The weird thing is I get diff input from each eye in diff lighting conditions. Sometimes I just walk around with one eye closed to keep from getting a headache. The worst is blacklights at Halloween. one eye sees a very dull dark shady purple and no surroundings, the other sees a bright light blue and 5-10 feet around the light. I can see whats comming in the Haunted house.

I'll come keep the battery from dying as you are only 45 min away. I might just ride it down to a winning school :p

Didn't your mama teach you not to make faces at people? and one day it may freeze like that :D

Smoke a joint, some crack cocaine, take 4 or 5 vicadin, three shots of Old Grand Dad and go for a ride. That sould clear it all up for you.

I feel your pain, I'm getting over a bout with Bell's palsy in fact today was my first day back in the saddle after a few weeks hiatus, went on our annual toy ride. Get well quick.

Sorry to hear about your condition, but you're taking the right approach with some ground school. Also some farkling may be good for the soul while you recuperate. Hang tough, there's a bunch of trouble-free miles left in the FJR for you to burn!

Get well soon :D

Sorry man. You're not far down the road, though. Just say the word and I'll ride over and help sync your TB's so you can still mess with the feej. Drinks will be on you, though. (Diet Mountain Dew is the poison of choice)

the perception issue i have is from the drugs the doctor says i need for my p.t.s.d.The doctor says it looks like may 2007 . sorry to hear about it were both in the same boat . i just start her up 2 times a week . thats about all i can do .

Thanks. I actually cheated tonight after sunset just to run the thing a little bit, make sure it got up to operating temps for a few miles, just to run it so it doesn't sit idle. Maybe that'll be a Sunday Evening thing for me (no alcohol sales on Sunday here sets my mind at ease a little--not cause I agree with it but maybe there's less risk of a drunk), until I have the facial control to really squint when I need to (for the sun). I'd told myself I was not going to ride at night if I could help it--one of those risk minimization things.

I love this motorcycle. Reading all of this stuff, while something to do during the downtime, just makes you want to ride even more.

As far as farkling--I might be all farkled out for a little while. I'm pretty spent out, what with tax, a year's worth of insurance, and all the riding gear (still gotta get pants). Still, I got what I need I think--frame sliders, grip puppies, helmet, gloves, jacket, boots, ear plugs--for the time being.

In the interim, I'm going to continue to edumucate myself, because as a wise older friend told me: "crashing sucks."

Sincerely, thanks for all the well wishes.

Oh, man! Can't ride? Now THAT IS a bummer. I am genuinely feeling sorry for you. :(

The other thing I'm doing is shamelessly promoting my latest FJR video. In addition to the aforementioned therapy of sitting on your bike and saying "Vroom vroom," you could watch this video, paying special attention to that wonderful sound of FJR acceleration....! Plus it's got a great soundtrack.

See it here: Go Here for Vicarious Vrooming

AND, as a bonus, since I think you're the fellah who hypothesizes more FJR crashes, and noted my question about touching down a knee puck as another data point, here's new fodder for killing otherwise riding time in posting to the forum.

There, I've done my good deed for the day....

Sorry to hear about the BP. My wife had that back in the spring, freaked us both out. She was worried it wouldn't ever go away, but about 3 weeks later she was pretty well back to normal. Since you've had it several times before, I'm sure I'm not telling you anything new. I've never heard of someone having that much. Hope you do have a quicker than normal recovery. Bummer! Sorry dude!

I'm really sorry to hear that. My daughter had the exact same thing

and we took her in for Acupuncture. She was good to go in no time and it has never come back. I know it sounds funny buttttttt *it worked*!
Hope you get better real soon.
