Jesus, reading this stuff gives me the willies.
So far....so good. 6 years of LD riding and not one even close call.
This past summer I went on 9,600 mile, cross-country trip from here in Oregon all the way to Jamestown, VA (yes I dipped my toe in the Atlantic---or something resembling it, I suppose.) I didn't even see a deer the whole way, even though I was crawling all over the BRP, Deals Gap, rural Virginia and West Virginia.
I got sick at the end and had (well, really I
wanted) to get home quickly, so I headed home from West Virginia at 10 PM, riding through the night through these little 2-laner rural roads and was scared nearly witless of meeting a deer, but I was lucky to not have seen one. Once I got on the slab, no problem. Took me 2-1/2 days to get home!)
The only strike I had was in the early morning headed east just outside Dubois, WY. At about 75-80 mph a dove (I think it was) smacked the bike just underneath the lower windshield. Never even saw it coming. All I saw was feather flying all over the place.
No bird, no blood, just feathers.
