Just got the 12/07 RIDER magazine, and on the cover is the comparo of these four ultimate ST/GT bikes.

And the winner (if you can believe this): Honda ST1300!!

The ST was chosen for doing everything well, whereas the other bikes had flaws that detracted from the experience.

Second place: FJR because of its "stiff, oversensitive throttle [no kidding!]."

Third: C14 because of its "bulky feel, engine heat, and lack of wind protection".

Fourth: GT because of "lack of front end feedback, sensitive brakes, and shifting anomolies".

I'll post more after I have a good session on the can and read the full article. :big_boss:

Well the other mag ranked them

C14

FJR

ST

R1200RT

So, BMW consistently wins 4th (even with different bikes), FJR consistently wins 2nd, and Kawi and Honda are both worse than the FJR, or both better somehow. Seems to me that the FJR is the better bike and people are just looking for an excuse to change their minds from previous year's findings. In 2004 the FJR ran away with these contests. The next year, same bikes, it came in last in one report because they thought Yamaha should address the heat fix and add cruise control.

Well, in '06 Yamaha put out the best heat management out there, they also have the best sport tourer out there. IMO.

I'd gladly take my '05 over any of the current competition.

Yep...already reported on THIS THREAD on Oct. 31.

Apparently, you should be reading the FJR Forum more often.

(Sheesh...and he isn't even a "noob:!) ;)

You have to take reviews with a grain of salt, another mag could do the same test and not get the same results. I just traded my ST (10 days ago) for a FJR but will never bad mouth a ST. My only complaint with is was the heat that I just could not cure. Other than that I loved the bike (had 2 ST 11's in the past also). All of those bikes pretty much the same, and they all have their quirks.

I agree with Gary's statement, in that, all of the ST's have their own quirks. I own an 05 ST1300, {my first non Yamaha bike}also own a 99 venture. When looking to purchase a sport touring bike, I really looked HARD at the FJR. Always owned Yamaha's, and really thought the FJR was on my list.

After reading everything I could find, test riding my friends RT's, FJR's, ST1300's and giving consideration to my purpose for this style bike, I bought the Honda.

When I am approached by riders who express interest in the ST, I tell them to look at all of them! Subject to an individuls own personality traits, these bikes are all close enough to meet your orginial purpose for purchasing. Meaning, I would have been happy on a BMW RT, BMW GT, or FJR. The Kawi's 1400 was not an available choice yet.

Magazines, and similarly, the Forums, provide us knowledgable insite for all us to make a well enough informed decision.

Regards, MC Murray
