I was riding with boat shoes and the heel of my shoe has melted some gum rubber to the exhaust pipe in front of the can. Does anyone have an idea as to how I can remove this?? Thanks much, Greg :blink:

I have used a sponge and Comet Stainless Steel cleaner. I have also used rubbing compound. I use NevrDull to get the shine back.

Thanks for all the good advise, what really worked awesome was Bon Ami non abraisive stainless steel sink cleaner.

Easy Off oven cleaner is often the only thing I've found to cut plastic/rubber off of exhaust without excessively abrasive methods.

I have used 0000 steel wool on both my '03 and '04, with no ill effects whatsoever. In fact, my pipes even at 25,000 miles look like brand new.

Yes "0000" steel wool on a heated up pipe works great. Don't use anything less than "0000" grade. You can get it at any hardware store.

Truth. I used 0001 wool, and it went right thru the pipe

I've used a product called Dritz Iron cleaner on chrome exhausts - you can get a tube at a fabric store for about $6 - it's designed to clean the bottoms of irons - totally non-abrasive and gets everything off. Heat up the pipes and rub a small amount on a heavy cloth an rain-pant material and boot marks are gone. Don't know how it would work on the brushed look though.
