My friend from the UK, Sally Tyler, comes out about once a year to ride around the US with me, Tyler Risk and a whole cast of characters. So she came up with a brilliant idea for our own logo to document our episodes with, including t-shirts which you'll see upon occasion:

This year's "episode" would take us on an 8-day sojourn to Southern California since we figured we had a better chance at good weather and I hadn't really ridden much down that way. The journey would take us places we'd never been and remind us of silver linings that can be found in almost everything that happens...

Silver Linings = A hopeful or comforting prospect in the midst of difficulty.

So we began on a Thursday morning, clear blue skies, cool temps, and high spirits... our special guest stars for the day, CC & Bill, would be accompanying us to the Madonna Inn in San Luis Obispo...

Our chosen route for the day started with Hwy. 25...

Then on to Nacimiento-Ferguson Rd...

And out to the beautiful coast where the weather gods were smiling down on us... one must pay close attention as you near the coast... the views are spectacular and the road is narrow...

You can see CC to the left of center down there...

We stopped at Ragged Point for lunch and wandered about the grounds... tons of monarch butterflies flitted about the lavender...

We hightailed it via Hwy 1 to the Madonna Inn in San Luis Obispo, a kitschy hotel with varied decorative themes for each room... Sally had wanted to stay here so I reserved the Safari room complete with waterfall shower...

Freshly waterfalled, we headed for dinner and gawked at the architecture...

The Gold Rush Steak House has great food and is quite a sight to behold...

The next morning Sally and I headed for the pool and hot tub for a dip before breakfast...

We had breakfast at the Copper Cafe...

And then shared a moment with our special guest stars before they headed back for home and we continued on our merry way...

To come - off to Simi Valley... the long way 'round!

DAY TWO: San Luis Obispo to Simi Valley - https://tinyurl.com/n2p65x7

We took our time as we didn't have a long way to go and waited for the morning to warm up a bit. There were a couple of roads nearby that I had heard about but never ridden so off we went to try them out...

Prefumo Canyon Rd.
IMG_0063-XL.jpg

Which wound its way up top with a great view of the rock at Morro Bay...
IMG_0065-XL.jpg

And also includes a short (less than a mile) stint on hard-packed dirt... I'd kinda forgotten about that part... oops! Sally is not a fan of dirt roads but she hung in there and made it through unscathed...
IMG_0066-XL.jpg

IMG_0067-XL.jpg

And then down See Canyon where we were treated to more fall colors which would become more and more prevalent as we traveled...
DSC_0999-XL.jpg

A hop, skip, and a jump down 101 to 166 which some find boring but we very much enjoyed the wide open sweepers that came one after another... no pics... having too much fun... then it straightens out a bit and the landscapes get pretty barren but, we both agreed, still beautiful to look at...
IMG_0095-XL.jpg

A tale of two farmlands...
IMG_0094-XL.jpg

And finally we descended upon the twists and turns of Hwy 33 toward Ojai...
IMG_0096-XL.jpg

IMG_0101-XL.jpg

We came across another display of color and had to stop to drink it in...

And then onward to more yee-haw moments...
DSC_1023-XL.jpg

We had a late lunch in Ojai and then high-tailed it to my sister's house in Simi Valley via 150 and 23 and a wee bit of Friday afternoon traffic... a wonderful home-cooked meal, a good night's sleep and we were ready for the adventures that the next day would hold for us...

Steve, when are you gonna get your Aussie butt over here so we can take you on some of our favorite roads, hmmmm? :D

Tyler, as usual your photos are outstanding! Someday I'm going to ask you to escort me thru some of your favorites.

I use your style of GPS often, even when Pops and I took your crew to Electric City. I just can't seem to remember all the roads names anymore!
