Got a letter today from Yamaha thanking me for my purchase of the FJR1300 ABS.

But basicly it is a request to fill out a survey on my " experiance purchasing my new motorcycle from Donelson Cycles Incorporated"

A rather lengthy survey form was included along with a postage paid envelope. They also listed a website that I could use to fill out the survey online.

I would have preferred a hat....lol.

Ack! You went to Donelson's? How was your experience? Did you go to the store in St. Ann's, or the one on Telegraph? The mechanics at the Telegraph location seem better, but I refuse to spend money at Donelson's anymore. In the past they had a mechanic damage my bike (Triumph Thunderbird) and refuse to take responsibility for it; they've tried to replace parts that I didn't request be replaced, and they sold me 'waterproof' riding gear that leaked the first day I used it (and I had spent $600 on jacket and pants) then told me that "Well, nothing is really 100% waterproof" and refused to return my money or let me exchange for other brands--I had to go to my credit card company and it took 5 months to resolve. I have a really good dealer over in Belleville (RPM Motorwerks, Inc.), the owner is also the mechanic (and a great mechanic at that), and he highly recommends the Yamaha dealership in Hartford, IL.

BTW Knifemaker I didn't realize you lived in St. Louis--if you ever feel up for a ride some weekend let me know. smitty is going to send me the route they did last weekend, I'll do it sometime this summer.

Cheers!

I have had issues with Donelson's in the past, and as this was quite awhile back, I am willing to give them a new chance with me. Oddly, I still do not reccomend them as a dealer, but I know one of the salesmen from way back...and was impressed that he remembered me after about 20 or so years..Anyway, he's at the St. Ann location and I did get my bike from there.

The store is a great place to try on helmets and gear...(they have a huge inventory) but then after you find the size that fits , go online and you will find a better deal almost anywhere else. I have bought gear from them when I just wanted something and did not want to wait.

Because I know some of the staff, I might be getting better treatment, don't know. I have gone to the one on Telegraph, it's actualy much closer to where I live (Fenton). I just bought my new helmet there and had them do the safety inspection on my Vulcan. It is a tiny dealership and does not have the near the selection the St. Ann store does....so if looking for gear I tend to go to the larger store.

I usualy do not have my bike serviced by anyone but me...but as I have a pretty full card this month, Two graduations and a wedding to plan, I plan on dropping off my bike for it's 600 mile service at one of the Donelson dealers. Yes, I am just a tad bit scared...lol
