Apologies for having a 'tude last night. Not a good night.

The San Juan Sheriff's office has a policy to hand out business cards at each stop, encouraging feedback from the public, good and bad. I thanked the officer at the stop and mentioned I might send a nice letter. He was most appreciative and encouraged me to do so. I never thought he might get in trouble for not hanging paper. Hopefully a Sheriff who institutes a feedback policy is smart enough to realize there is more to law enforcement than generating revenue.

Geesh, now ya'll have me concerned.

No need to worry. Believe it or not, there are supervisors that know there's more to police work than the number of tickets a person writes.

Erik.

Well done, Don. The CHP officer who ticketed me recently for [CENSORED] was also a very cool guy whose professionalism I appreciated. It was just hard to say so as he's handing me that slip of expensive pink paper.... :glare:

As a minor example of how I like to acknowledge professionalism, yesterday after finishing the deal for Fang's new car, I told the salesman who was helping us as I shook his hand: "Thank you for your help. It was a pleasure doing business with you. You're a real professional."

Do not be concerned because the deputy did not give you a ticket. It is up to each deputy/officer on what they want to do. He and his Sheriff will appreciate the letter. We do not get that many of them. Most likely it will end up in his file as a good thing.

As for the card, it is law in Colorado that a police officer give out either a ticket or some other item that lets the person know who contacted them. It stems from Eagle County doing profile stops on I-70 years ago.

So I maybe should have asked Officer Fenwick if he was profiling old geezers on FJRs?

Maybe I should get to writing some emails. I was pulled over TWICE Wednesday. My luck continues. No ticket either time. On second thought, maybe I should write emails, send post cards, flowers, and a gift basket. ;)

Nah, I'm sure the ******** you gave them was enough.

:bigeyedsmiley:

Theses people "sheriff, chief, superintendent, etc." did not get in their positions by being stupid... they probably already have a good feel for the officers working for them, or at least the supervisor in between does, so they probably know who is doing a good job, or a bad job, or is passing out cards soliciting an "attaboy". The feedback just documents or justifies the "awshits or attaboys" the brass give out. Heartfelt letters of commendation are obvious and well received. Too often they are too few. So, "attaboy".

On the other hand, when you prove to me sucking up doesn't work, I will quit doing it.
