+1 on someone who had no desire to be without a clutch lever. After I read up on the bike, and tried it out for a few miles. I still was not sold on the idea, but the 2K savings kept me thinking.

I now own an 08AE WELL farkled (Including the Russell seat being built this week). for about the same price I would have paid for the 09A.

Both the A and the AE have there advantages, but I have NO REGRETS buying my AE.

Oh ya... The AE comes standard with heated grips ;)

After riding an AE for about 5 miles I liked it. The only problem I would have with the AE (I've owned 3 As) is that I have a habit of bliping the throttle when stopped at a light. Not good with the AE...

The only reason people might think the AE "SUCKS" is because they can't wrap their heads around the fact that there is no clutch lever!

That must be a complete culture shock thing for them. :dribble: Trust Me, it doesn't "SUCK"! Matter of fact, It's Freakin' AWESOME. :clapping:

Just listen to all of us who own one. :yahoo: If they did "SUCK", All the AE owners among us would be saying that Loud and Clear. We're NOT!!

I have no medical need for the AE. I just got addicted to the sensation of the F1 racer on two wheels aspect of it! There is a brand new '08AE around here

that has been reduced to a price that is making my knees wobble. I might pull the trigger on it just in case the 2010AE halt in production becomes permanent.

I want this bike in my garage for a long, long time. Thank God it's not popular!! Cheaper for us AE lovers to save some $$$$. :drinks:  :blum:

I do that all the time! Put it in neutral! You can Blip the throttle any time you want!! :yahoo:

Hmmm. :p

I have an 06AE and have also thought about parking a new one in the garage to save for later. I've been riding bikes for 50+ years and have never once thought about buying a spare model to have sitting around. The clutch lever less FJR sure is something special!!

All of you AE horders better get your stashes filled up, cause there's every reason in the world to believe that Yamaha won't be making them ever again.

'Course you could always just switch to a Honda... ;)

AMEN BROTHER!!! :clapping: The skeptics don't know what they are missing!!

I just do not get all this A vs AE thing. It reminds me of my Grandfather saying "back in the day..." Time marches on, all cars have multiple computerized systems, not to mention ABS, Traction control, electronic ignition and on and on. I remember adjusting the valves on my VW every 3k, tuneup at every 10-12K. Now 100k on plugs is normal, and cars can go almost to life time with minimal care.

Bikes also are so much more reliable compared to the CB's I started with in the 1970's. Sure when I was 20 I was faster with reflexes and hand , foot and eye coordination , but in my 50's no way. The AE is not that complicated of a system, the technology in various forms has been around for a long time in other applications.

I don't understand why they haven't put this on other bikes. Seems like a killer option for entry-level bikes. But they don't have a good entry level bike that has enough power to start off in the wrong gear.

Why waste all the development money by dropping it from the FJR? Guess its cutting into the price of the regular bike. Maybe they could do it as an option instead of a separate model/

Love mine. Not much difference as far as I'm concerned. Be nice if you could get off the line a little quicker. (I'm going to adjust the clutch engagement per the other thread.)

Outstanding Post Happy,

I guess there is something to that "You can teach an old dog new tricks" thing. I'm kinda the same way with cameras. I've been an amateur photographer my

whole life. When I'm not playing with airplanes or riding my bike, I'm taking pictures. Beautiful pictures at that! I know that digital photography is taking over

the world. I know that I will have to go digital sooner or later. But, for now, I don't care how small the pixels get, NOTHING can beat the fluid beauty of FILM.

So, I can relate to all the "Bah Humbug" attitude about the AE. I don't think film will ever go away completely. But, It's getting to the point where I have to go

on line to order some. Walmart only has a small section of film left. It's in a cabinet in the janitor's mop storage room. If Walmart is backing away from

stocking film, You know the world is coming to an end!! :cray:

It probably has very little to do with the price, or how expensive it is to manufacture, or how difficult it is to service.

It is much more likely to be related to the simple laws of supply and demand. Regardless of how great it may (or may not) be, the demand for this type of a bike is too low. This is clearly highlighted by the disproportionate number of AE leftovers in the dealers inventories at the end of every year that they have been manufactured.

This is true. Sad, but True. :( If they were selling like hotcakes, they wouldn't have stopped making them. :ermm:

I think I'm going to pull the trigger on the brand new '08AE. That color is Gorgous! I want one that color in my garage.

The '06 will be the daily beater. The '08 will be used on the weekends for the ladies!!

How about those with no feet or artificial limbs? Maybe the thumb trigger is easier than the foot pedal.

Bravo! :clapping:

I've often thought that if I should happen to lose my right foot or leg as well, I could have the rear brake operated

by a lever on the left side or the unified braking system could possibly be adjusted to apply pressure more equally

with just the right brake lever...what ever it takes, I'll be ridin'...bigjimbiker :yahoo:
