Hello, after some searching I found my bike and just brought it home. When I unloaded it and put into my garage I started the bike to get things flowing around. I put the bike up on the center stand and put the bike in first ( I know this isn't the safest thing to do but I wanted to see the bike shift). Now I'm new at ABS brakes on motorcycles so when I saw the ABS light kick on without any brakes applied I was caught off guard. It happened when I started to give it a little gas to get the rear wheel moving. Is this normal behavior? Or should I contact the dealer I bought it from to let them know about the issue? Thanks

The front wheel sensor isn't reporting any forward speed, yet the rear wheel sensor is showing speed (front wheel isn't turning, rear wheel is turning). Therefore, a 'fault' should be detected by the ABS controller and an indicator should light up.

Take this with a grain of salt... I don't have an FJR, but the above is common logic for other ABS bikes. SOmeone with specific FJR knowledge will chime in.

:)

Is this normal behavior?
No, absolutely not! Putting an FJR on the center stand and running it stationary in the garage is crushing its soul and depriving what it was designed to do. Get it off the center stand, ride more, and stress less!

What Iggy said. However, BakerBoy is correct. If you move the rear wheel with the front wheel stationary, your light will flash. This is covered in your owners manual. If you didn't get one with the bike, you can print it off of Yamaha's site. Read the manual.

I would do that in a heart beat if it wasn't 15F degrees outside and loads of salt on the ground. Soon as its above freezing and the roads look cleanish I'll be on it.

I can see how this would make sense. Thanks, I can stop sweating now.

Downloading the manual now. Thanks for the help.

Brian, glad to hear you got the bike home...now leave it alone, till you can take it out for a ride.

You might want to hook it up to a battery tender....if I remember correctly, it already had the pigtail to do so.

You have not updated your profile to indicate what year FJR you bought. It will not matter anyway, your question is already answered. On my '15 the ABS light is on until the bike has rolled a few feet forward. Since you did already get the information you want...

Ignacio is correct. The only time it is acceptable to put a motorcycle on its centerstand and run it stationary in the garage:

1. It must be a Harley Davidson.

2. It must be raining outside. There must be at least a 20% chance of rain sometime that day.

3. You must dress like a pirate.

4. Place a large electric fan in front of the bike to simulate a 50 mph wind. 50 mph is the normal speed of a Harley in a 55 mph zone.

5. Have a radio playing Steppenwolf "Born to be wild" so loud that the neighbors can hear it over the sound of your loud pipes.

Sorry, I just remembered. Harleys don't have centerstands. Oh well, good luck with your new bike, if this is the worst of your worries you will be fine.

2015 Owner's Manual, page 4-3, says the ABS light comes on when you start the bike, and "goes off after traveling at a speed of 10km/h (6 mi/h) or higher."

I checked this because mine has to go down 4 flights of a parking deck to reach the street, and we were apparently not exceeding 6 mph the first few times we rolled out.

Leave it alone...haha. This is the first bike I have bought where I haven't had it in pieces on its first day home combing through everything. I will do my best to leave it alone but no promises. Thanks for the lead, it really is a great bike. And yes the bike is on a battery tender. I don't need the disappointment of a dead battery on the first decent day.

My ABS light goes off with the rest of the warning lights after startup. It has never stayed on until I reach 6mph. Is that new??

And RFH, you're an idiot, but sometimes you're funnier than Odot falling down a flight of stairs!

(In my best snobbish tone) Why yes my dear 'Zilla this is in fact new. It's a Gen3 thing, you wouldn't understand.

'Zilla, Dad's '07 does exactly the same as yours, it goes off with the rest of the warning lights. The first few times my '15 ABS light was on after I started it I was worried. Then I realized it was behaving like the BMW R1200RT. I did not read that part of the manual apparently but the bike is always above 6mph before it moves 10 feet.

And thanks, I think. I try to be funny and entertaining but the idiot part keeps messing me up.
