I did a trip from NJ to Savannah last week to visit some friends. On the return I was cruising on 95 at about 95 mph through the Carolinas when I was passed by another two wheeled vehicle. It wasn't a cop. Not a motorcycle. Not a jet with gear down. IT WAS A FRIGGIN SCOOTER! The guy was from Florida and had his shoulders tucked in to deal with the turbulent air.

Of course I passed him after he passed me, but WOW! :competitivesmiley:

I almost bought one of those as opposed to the feej. Tough sell...

This month's Bike magazine raced an R1 against a big scooter on a day trip thru France and some mountains for 400 or so miles. The Scooter won by 45 minutes!! The R1 had more gas stops, got lost once and was pulled over for speeding for 30 minutes. But it was noted that even without the ticket the scooter still would have won.

I would like to put a turbo on one. Dress up like

Peewee Herman, and go Harley hunting.

I once rode with Honda Al. Honda Al owns the local Honda dealership. Honda Al likes to take the store's Silver Wing out on Hwy 33 and hold class for all those who *think* they can ride. You cannot 'beat' Honda Al on any machine. Many have tried and many have failed. Honda Al is also in his seventies. Awesome.

I had a similar experience a couple of years ago. I was riding into Rapid City, SD on Hy 90 doing 90 and was passed by a Honda Gold Wing riding 2 up and pulling a trailer.

A Silverwing Scooter is the other arrow in my quiver of 2 oo ma' chings. As this is a long distance thread- Did FL.>VA. 950mi.^950v It is a great bike. More practical than FJR around town. Medium size pizza fits under seat. Large pizza, no problem- automatic transmisson, gas & aim right hand- pizza tie down back seat -left hand. Will do 110 with tail wind, 105 any day. Cruise 95-100 all day & it's quick getting there, no 75...76...77....78.....sum day 80 NO It's like 0...zoom...100! Any stock Harley- Green light-zoom-rear view mirror. I'll post a pic of this scoot as soon as I install leo vince pipe I scored on ebay. Hey I bought it off ebay. Long Distance? all the seats out of dodge caravan, FL>NY & Back scooter inside van. Big Scooter, Big Fun ! :)

Well, don't feel too bad. Goldwing ain't a Silverwing and I read it'll do 0-60 in 3.8 seconds. Since I feel the need for speed, my Wing (with a camper tagging along behind) usually passes, not follows :assassin:

Since this is LDR topic, only 30 days to my USA Four Corners run. Slo-mo Iron Butt Run around the USA. Might try an SS1K from Denver down to Memphis on the way to Key West as I'm an IBV (Iron Butt Virgin).

As far as the scooters go, I think the Silver Wing and the Bergman are both pretty impressive. Maybe one day when the FJR/Wing get to be too much to handle...

p.s. My first ride was some sort of scooter (Cushman) back in the 50's.

Thank you my friend. I am looking forward to seeing you and all the other FJR crew. I'll introduce you to my baby brother when we get there.
