On the way to work this morning at 4:25 am I took the Riverside Ave off ramp into Roseville as usual. When I started into the turn I noticed something wet in the road and about that time I was on the ground sliding along the pavement. I looked to my left and my bike was sliding as well. The bike ended up near the far side of the off ramp and me in the middle of it. I crawled off the road trying to get my breath. A car came along right after and stopped..2 guys came back and picked the bike up for me as my ribs on the right side are either cracked or bruised (we'll see later at the docs). It was an oil spill that went clear across the road. I reported the spill to the CHP who closed the off ramp until it could be cleaned up. No road rash..the full faced helmet and Georicke jacket did their job...just some very sore ribs, right hip, and right shoulder.

The whole right side of the bike is toast.

Will Cal trans assume any liability for the spill?

Waiting for the insurance company to call me now. What a way to start a weekend huh?

Dude, sorry about your off. Glad to hear you're mostly ok.

As far as CalTrans owning your accident: You might have a shot if they received complaints prior to your accident. You need to contact them and the CHP to see if they did receive reports of an oiled road. Then, get a really, really good consiglieri.

Sorry to here about the accident. Sounds like there was no time to react to anything. Heal quickly. Shoulders and ribs, cracked or bruised can take a while to heal. The bike should be easy to fix if its just cosmetic damage. Tho it won't be cheap. Call Gary McCoy at University motors. He'll be about 40% cheaper than list on every thing you need.

My Son-In-Law had the same thing happen, He had the documentation from the CHP on the oil spill and Progressive didn't up his rates (not at fault).

Ouch! I hope I never meet an oil slick at night 'cause I know I'll do exactly what you did. Thanks for the reminder to put the sliders on. Hope you and the bike heal quickly.

damn, sorry to hear about the spill and hope you feel better soon. i know that offramp well. let the insurance handle it and they'll figure out the subrogation.

Rebel,

I am glad you weren't hurt to bad - I hope you heal quickly and get back on the saddle.

Best Regards,

Shane

sorry to hear about your accident and glad you are ok for the most part.

definitely check with the chp (impressed they closed the ramp) and also inquire about any recent accidents on the ramp. if there was an accident and the tow truck or fire dept didn't clean up properly, you may have a claim.

Wow could have been worse as said before bike is easy to fix, ribs cracked or broken 6 to 8 weeks. just do not cough. good luck and take doctors advice

Earlier in the summer I was entering a left turn lane and the light turned red. I was slowing down and saw a shinney spot in the middle of the road about 6 feet wide and continuing on through the left turn down the road for about 500 yards. I almost entered that area with the fj but moved to the right almost in the other lane. when I stopped I was sure glad I did. It was diesel from a pick-up or delivery truck that just went through. It would have been like trying to stand up on ice the bike one way me the other. Two things caught my attention the sheen and the smell, I was lucky that day. You just never know what is out there to get you

I hope you feel better. As far as the oil slick goes, CalTrans may not be able to help you out. It was a while back, but there were some idiots down here in San Diego that were intentionally paying down oil on on and off ramps. There were quite a few accidents from these fools.

It's no matter...thinking back now it could have been much much worse. That car /truck could have ran over me. I'll get the bike fixed and sell it. It's too tall for me. It's only money man..only money~

Sorry to say I have heard of people who have dumped a qt. of oil on a curve at night just to see bikes get screwed up! They do this if they know bikes are using a certain road etc.

CK.

Sorry to hear about your accident. Glad to hear that you are OK. Take it for what it is, an accident. Get back on the horse as soon as you are able. Take care and stay safe.

There was at least 50 gallons of oil bud...at the minimum..was clear across the road..
You would be suprised how far a gallon of oil will spread...

Glad to see your ok.
