As well as an inquiry about previous calls to the CHiP about the spill, also check to see if they may have an i.d. on who did it. We have a big rock quarry in town and occassionally when we have a spill of hydrolic oil, we just follow the stream till we catch up with the truck.

I'd more bet it was a garbage truck of some kind. The side-arms & compactors are hydraulic. Maybe the type that empties the dumpsters....
Either way, did I read that you are going to replace the FJR with another bike? The FJR is too tall? What are you looking at?

I had planned to sell the bike before this happenned anyway. When all the plastic is replaced, it's going up for sale. Has new Avon tires on it.
I came to this bike from a Harley Sportster 1200 custom..It was balanced well, ran good and vibrated like hell. Do I want another Harley? Hell no! Do I need the speed of the FJR? Prolly not..(as I have said I bought it for 2 up and she never wanted to go).
I am 5'6 and weigh 150#. I want to go to a smaller cruiser style bike. One where I can put my feet down at a stop sign, has a shaft drive, is water-cooled, and has enough power for the freeways here.
I am looking at a 750 Kawasaki Vulcan...used prolly as my insurance is gonna be fucking high after all this settles.
I have to call the shop tomorrow to come and get the FJR
Taking the rest of the week off to let the ribs mend some more.

Hey Rebel, I work for the state of MS loss control and risk department. I handle all liability claims filed against our state agencies. Also I am a member of STRIMA State Risk and Insurance Managers Assoc. California also has a member. I think the head of their dept is Gary Estrada [sic.] Ralph Mauer used to be but he has now retired, of course they are located in Sacremento. Anyway, what I am trying to get around to saying is that you had inquired about filing a claim against the state of Cal., if they knew about the spill and failed to warn or correct/clean up. The statute laws vary from state to state on this subject, but I would suggest that you call the Cal. loss control and risk dept, ask for Gary, tell him a STRIMA bud suggested you call and inquire. MS law provides that the state must have actual or constructive notice of the hazard and adequate opportunity to protect of warn against. Those issues would fall on both the highway dept and the MHP. Good luck, maybe there is something there, get well, stay w/fjr, get an 06 model, it will have the adjustable seat. later-Bruce
