The book is very vague about how exactly to turn the knobs. Are you supposed to just simply turn them to adjust the vertical angle? I am afraid I am going to break the knob off.

The "book" said turn the knobs.

Turn the damned things and ask when **** gets broke.

Gotta say though, This is a first owner who's questioned the Manuel..........................................................

I've been going through the same thing Iris.

My low beams were pointed higher than the high beams should be. I took a look on the back of the headlight for the adjuster bolts. Not there. At least nowhere visible.

So I sat there twisting the damn knobs. I don't have big hands (dammit), but even with my hands I could barely turn the knobs, theirs just no room for your fingers!

I've finally got them where they should be and I've come to the conclusion that in redesigning the headlights for the Gen 3's. They've completely pooched the reflector design. The headlights, even properly aimed, are WAY substandard compared to my Gen 1.

Here's what the manual says:

"........Adjust headlight beam (vertically):

a. Turn the adjusting knob in direction "a" or "b" ----- direction "a" = beam is raised / direction "b" lowered........"

Which headlight gets lowered? Does the right knob control thr right headlight? Do I turn only one knob at a time or both at the same time?

My right headlight is weaker looking than the left. I am thinking that it's pointing up higher than the left but maybe I am wrong and it's actually too low; I can't really tell for sure.

Does the knob click as it turns like ratcheting? I keep trying to turn it to the right but maybe I am wrong and the headlight really needs to go in the other direction. If it's already turned all the way to the right then maybe I am trying to force it to go more. That's why I'm afraid I'm going to break it.

When I read on in the book about how to adjust horizontally, I am completely bewildered. The manual is ambiguous. I really thought it would be more simple to turn the stupid knob. Hahaha I guess I gotta be smarter than the knob.

I'll take a picture of what it says in the service manual. I'm usually pretty good about understanding English but it really has me stumped.

Iris,

The knobs only do vertical adjustment. Left knob for left light, etc. I had a hard time adjusting and believing they were moving until i did it in the dark. It tkes several revolutions to get noticable movement.

Try hanging/taping something over one of the headlights and then you can see what affect the knob has on the visible headlight while it's shining on a wall. If you want to get technical, try googling headlight adjustment for the complete procedure for proper adjustment.

Not really sure what the issue is.

I've adjusted mine before against a wall at a shopping center at night, you can see the beam go up or down depending on which way you turn the knob, pretty straight forward.
