Tuesday was a tourist day as I made my way along River Rd… it was a beautiful day and I was enjoying the simplicity of the gently winding road taking me through small towns, past bridges, plantations, and sugar cane crops, and glimpses of the river…

Another creature enjoying the day…

And visited several of the plantations including the majestic 11 Oaks which I had seen from the road several years ago but decided this time to take the tour…

Took a quick stop at this cemetery along the way… I’ve always found these fascinating with the above ground crypts and reverence for ancestors past…

Andrew/Redfish (nicknamed by me as MGP aka Mr. Grumpy Pants… he has a gift at knowing when a camera is aimed at him and steadfastly refuses to smile… ever… even though he was smiling 1 second earlier) had suggested meeting up at Houmas House which he recommended doing a tour of and he did not steer me wrong… it was really beautiful and was my favorite of the day…

MGP was enjoying himself… really!

He yelled, “Take my picture here, Ms. Tyler!!” :D

A relative perhaps?

This little guy was having quite the feast…

20171017_160106-X2.jpg

One of the houses in the back had Chihuly glass artwork installed in it… I love his creations!

We arrived at the Redfish home where I was treated to a delicious meal of redfish (of course!) and other Louisiana delicacies with MGP’s lovely wife, Amy, son Todd, Pops and Mom, and sister Angela… it was a wonderful evening and I enjoyed being a part of the family for the night… there is nothing quite like Southern hospitality… don’t think I’ve been “ma’am”-ed so much in my entire life!

Wednesday, Oct. 18th

Today we headed out to meet up with Joey/hppants (a much more jovial sort) who had planned out an adventure to show me around their neck of the woods… Pops met us at MGP’s house… I love the father-son relationship between these two… great respect and good-natured ribbing but always with affection and care…

20171018_093429-X2.jpg

We headed out toward the ferry where we’d cross the river…

20171018_101856-X2.jpg

Gotta get the bike beauty shot…

20171018_103700-X2.jpg

Pops waiting patiently… he don’t need no stinkin’ photo!

20171018_203500-X2.jpg

I don’t know where MGP gets his frowns from cause Pops always has a smile on his face…

20171018_105313-X2.jpg

Joey was waiting for us on the other bank… we exchanged greetings and then were off for the day’s adventure… first stop was another plantation…

20171018_203805-X2.jpg

And a new first for me… Joey cut a piece of raw sugar cane (and himself in the process but didn’t let on how bad it was and was a trooper all day) and I got to gnaw on it for a bit… it was yummy!

20171018_200739-X2.jpg

Lunchtime!

20171018_122219-X2.jpg

After lunch, Joey took us to a place along the river and taught me how to throw a catch net… I’m happy to say I did fairly well and didn’t fall into the river in the process…

Then Joey led us along a myriad of farm roads to our next destination… Wildlife Park… we pretty much had the place to ourselves so wandered around taking in the various wonders of the place…

I love the dripping moss in the trees… so cool!

20171018_151823-X2.jpg

We came across a young bride-to-be and her entourage doing a pre-wedding photo shoot… everyone was very good-natured about this group of heathen motorcyclists crossing the bridge… well almost everyone…

20171019_153151-X2.jpg

Buddha’s palace…

20171018_153336-X2.jpg

After the group left, Joey decided to recreate the moment in his own unique way which thrilled MGP to no end…

On the way back to Redfish land, we passed over this cool floating bridge…

And this sign…

A really great day with good friends and fantastic sights… thoroughly grateful for these people…

Thursday, Oct. 19th

Today would be a treat of a different kind… no bikes today but instead a boat trip along the Blind River… while every day so far had been special in its own way, this day was exceptionally special for a number of reasons… hard to describe it was kind of like this magical, secret place that not everyone gets to go to and I was feeling pretty blessed to share this day with these two gents… yeah, we give MGP a lot of crap but he is an exceptional man as is his father… this day was truly a gift in so many ways…

20171019_113405-X2.jpg

And we saw bald eagles too… couldn’t zoom in close enough but they were pretty cool…

Our Captain for the day… :D

Lunch spot where I had to be sneaky so I could buy these two lunch…

20171019_122747-X2.jpg

Reluctantly, we headed back to load up the boat and head back for Redfish land… but, man, what a day that will forever be etched into my memory…and to top it off, when we got back, my hosts treated me to a fantastic dinner at one of their favorite restaurants…

20171019_184431-X2.jpg

And yes, here it is… the family photo of MGP with his lovely wife, Amy (aka “Bigun” a nickname which I hope will forever be put to rest because she is one of the most beautiful people – both inside and out – that I’ve met), and their wonderful son, Todd… and look! I think MGP is smiling!!! Hope it didn’t hurt his face too much…

All kidding aside, thank you to all of the cast of characters for sharing your part of the world with and being so kind to me... I loved every minute.

Friday, October 20th

Some days you need to get from point A to point B... and it's not necessarily about the roads but more about the company that you keep... today was one of those days... had breakfast with Redfish and local friends, John & Nadine, Troy & Amanada…

20171020_092338-X2.jpg

How many motorcyclists does it take to unlock a stuck helmet lock?

20171020_102021-X2.jpg

All of them…

20171020_102227-X2.jpg

Andrew rode with us for a while and then peeled off as we continued north toward Arkansas… Troy was doing a little bonus hunting for a rally he was planning so we stopped at a few interesting places along the way…

While the roads weren't technical, they were relaxing and lovely and I had kindred spirits to share it with throughout the day…

I had a bit of a love affair going on with the sky this day… it was continually changing with the clouds and lighting from the sun... at one point, I had one of those "moments" that just overwhelmed me... emotion at being alive, the sights around me, the people with me... and, it may sound kinda weird, but I felt an energy around me of those who are not with us physically but they were definitely with me in another mode... it was incredible…

20171020_164625-X2.jpg

20171020_175509-X2.jpg

And the sunset... holy smokes it just kept going and going... every time I thought it was done, it changed and morphed into something different... I am so grateful for all of it…

20171020_183105-X2.jpg

Restaurant next door to the hotel… decent food and better company…

20171020_202657-X2.jpg

We shared a nip of scotch before heading to bed… John & Nadine would head home the next morning and I would be off on my own again headed for the wonders of Arkansas…

FINALLY! I thought I would die of old age before that ever got posted.

That net is technically a Cast Net but it does "catch" so I guess that works.

The "Wildlife Park" was actually the Jungle Gardens at the Tabasco Factory on Avery Island. Sadly we did not have time to tour the factory as well. The smell inside is wonderful.

Regarding the lovely young woman doing her pre-wedding photo shoot, her entourage was urging us to pass on by. I stopped and refused. I told them, "Oh no. The last time I got close to a dress like that it cost me hundreds of thousands of dollars!" As I walked past her I did tell her she looked beautiful and I wished her well.

For everyone else, I sincerely apologize. I did all I could to keep BigUn from getting in front of the camera. I tell her often that I know she cannot help being ugly but she could lose some damn weight.

And now for My Side of the Story.

I met Tyler at Houmas House which is about 20 minutes from my home. It's known for its gardens and for the wonderful restaurants on the grounds and in the old house.

Tyler being beautiful:

Tyler being... Naughty Tyler:

Not many things make me smile. Tyler in my house and eating my grilled redfish is something worth smiling about.

We rode the ferry across the Mississippi River:

Tyler says, "This river is almost as wide as Mrs. Redfish!"

hppants/Joey cutting sugar cane and eventually himself:

A word here on that. Only hppants and I realized how badly he had cut himself. I saw where the blade went and where it stopped. I bandaged it and he rode with it like that All Damn Day. That took some Grit. After he rode with us all day he went to get medical attention. I was Impressed.

Our student Cajun learning to throw a Cast Net. hppants thinks of Everything.

On Blind River and the Petite Amite looking at Lily Pads:

Reserved Parking at Kevin's Restaurant on The Diversion Canal:

An Eagle. Just a damned eagle. You don't have to call it a BALD eagle.
