Advice for Route - Vegas to San Francisco

Looking to take a drive from Vegas to San Fran. Thinking of going part way (longer leg) on day one and overnight, then the rest of the way day two. Wondering about the scenery and road reommendations some may have that are familiar with ground? Good place to overnight on day 1? Other suggestions?

Drive? I'd recommend different roads for that than for riding. Camping or motel long? How soon?

It's Fleet Week in SF this weekend. Riding a motorcycle is a good way to get around the City on such a weekend since it will be gridlock along the water. I was thinking I might shoot into town for the Blue Angels performance at 3PM Saturday or Sunday....

Roy, I'd probably divert north at Bishop to U.S. 6 and Hwy 120 and get a ride on the free roller coaster. Also, why Hwy 266? I'm not familiar with it, but the other option is Death Valley. So, I might try this variation

Tom, 266 is nothing to write home about but fast. I like 166 especially the last 1/3 as you approach Lone Pine /395, nice twisties with elevation changes in the middle of the turn. Plus if you've not been to Bristlecone National Forest, you've missed the oldest trees in North America.

Like your route out of Bishop also.

Just rode the reverse. San Francisco to Vegas. If you want to see hundreds of miles of where your grocery produce come from , then take 15 to I-5N. Miles of desert farm land from apples, wine grapes, strawberries and everything else. For the most scenic route, take 15 to the coast, catch Hwy 1/101 up along the coast. You want regret it at all, beautiful scenery. Many Vista View points. Stay on historic 1 as much as you can.
