I'm planning to ride out to San Diego from PA in January. I'm going to leave the FJR in San Diego for about 4 months and then come back and ride home in the Spring sometime between April & May. I'm visiting my daughter but she only has an apartment so I need some shelter for the FJR. She actually offered to let me keep it in her living room but I don't think that's a great idea although she gets extra daughter points for the offer.

I have found a couple places that store bikes. Any info on these places would be helpful or any other suggestions for storage.

Storage Places:

Also I will need new tires and an oil change once I get there. Can anyone recommend a reputable dealer or shop out there?

Thanks in advance!

For routine maintenance call Motoworld at (619) 442-0941. Theyre in El Cajon about 12 miles in from the coast. Very popular.

Closer to town, try San Diego BMW, 5673 Kearny Villa Road, San Diego, CA (858) 560-2453
Could'nt say about the bike storage but as long as they're secure you should be OK.
A1 is next to the airport so its easy to get to when you arrive.

So are you gonna have time for some riding in San Diego? Roy forgot to ask you that......

R
Most likely I will. I plan to arrive on Thursday 1/17 and stay until Monday night 1/21. Of course It all depends on when I actually get there barring any delays on the road and how quickly I can arrange the tire and oil change plus any other maintenance required for me or the bike. I may have a few worn out parts on my body after the ride as well.

Would love to do some local riding though and meet some fellow board members.

For service I'd recommend Poway Motorcycle. Bill is the owner and it's a small shop, but he's very good. He might also be able to help you out with storage.

Don't really know anything about the storage yards. I've never had the opportunity to look into it.

It looks like you're concentrating on the downtown area, so McRide's dealer suggestions are probably the best for you.

Regarding the oil change, there are several of us here in San Diego that can help you do an oil change in one of our garages - I'm in North San Diego (Vista) if that helps. For the tire change, I don't know if anyone down here has a tire changer yet...?

Interesting time of year for a cross country ride! Good luck and ride safe.

A little south of San Diego in National City is the best shop I have found. "National City Motorcycles" and I believe they have some bikes there in storage. Don't know the specifics about storage. Could email them and ask. https://www.ncmoto.net/

Rick, Thanks for the recommendation. I called and spoke with Bill and he will change my oil and store it. Thanks to everyone else for the suggestions too but I spoke with Bill first and there was no need to look further. Rather than chance it I just changed my tires ahead of time so I don't need that done now.

As usual, great help from this forum!
