I kinda skipped to the end, but first I want to put out there, that whole YOU HAVE TILL FRIDAY thing is a crock o sh!t. Its your money, your surgery, you take as much time as you want. Don't even BEGIN to think like its"Friday or never"

My opinion, I try to stay away from surgeries around what I consider very important areas. I would exhaust other options first. Keep in mind that situations like this are rarely a "no brainer" You have to list the negatives and possible negatives of both having the surgery, and not having the surgery, and basically pick the lesser of the two evils. I've had surgery and have side effects, but for me the negative side effects were like NOTHING compared to what I gained. It sounds like you are more worried about the side effects than you are about your current health situation. Which leads me to say, "you've dealt with it this long, would taking your time to come up with a decision really be that bad?"

Take your time, don't listen to an ultimatum from a doctor unless its lifethreatening and its choose to operate or die

Barb, If you need a referral for a second opinion, I have a family member who is an orthodontist in Victoria. I know he'll see you if I ask him. PM if you are interested. Dan

I agree with MadMike....

...where does that line form??

:)
Welllll, I was thinking, regarding Miss Barb's facial problems, I could "kiss it and make it better", no matter how long it takes. :yahoo:

Uhm....Wheatie....I guess you could call "seconds". Of course you'd have to wait for the results of my efforts and there's no telling how long that might be.

Er...I'll be slow, methodical and thorough.

That's nasty....
Though perfect for a Goober!

Now, those of you fantasizing about a possible gummer? ................get TF over it.
DAMNIT!!!

Pulling for you anyway. Stay Strong!
I don't need to get you a towel, do I?

I meet with mine tomorrow. If it doesn't go well, I just may take you up on that.

Thank you :)

as a young 'un, I had my jaw fractured by a size 10 DocMartin. this resulted in the doc's wiring my jaws together so that it was imobilised. this was good in one way - I couldn't eat so lost loads of weight just before joining the Navy, the down side was, because I couldn't eat, I had to drink loads of the weight gain shakes that body builders tend to use. now, because I couldn't open my mouth to clean my teeth, all the extra sugar in the shakes rotted my teeth and within 18 months I was having my first ever filling :angry2:

my second point - my 5 year old son was born with a condition called radial ulnar synystosis (or somethink like that anyways), what this means is that he cannot rotate his hands, they are permananetly palm facing downwards. mostly this causes him a little bit of grief, there's some stuff that he can't do particularly well like wiping his bum, but nothing really bothers him that much.

the consultant that we have been seeing is extremely keen to operate to turn his left hand to be facing upwards, and the last time we saw him he spoke into his dictaphone something about the possibility of neurological damage, I suffered this when I broke my arm in a motorcycling accident, and it took a year before I had any control in my hand again.

the risks of this surgery do not (in my mind) outweigh the benfits of having it done, which I think is exactly the same position that your are at. my boy's surgery is not happening, and will only happen if he wants to have it done when he is old enough to make his own mind up about it.

Well............that's that.

No surgery at this time

He will however submit all the modelling and xray information to a company who will create a series of custom formed treatment wires that will give me the best nonisurgical outcome possible

When that is done we'll figure out how to keep it all in place as best we can

His comment about the total change in the surgeron's demeanor was "I wonder if something has happened in his professional life recently that has affected his confidence". He was very concerned and perplexed by what I was told Monday

Glad this is over. I need my roller coaster life to take a time out for track maintenance.

Thanks, everyone, for your opinions and advice. I was obviosuly second guessing myself at every turn and needed some help

You guys may all be crazy, but yer dependable and sweet as hell! And that goes double for you, Tyler, dahlink!

Steel, baby? Rremember, without pics, didn't happen hahahaha

And this is EXACTLY why you have your reputation as a troublemaker, my dear vixen from the north. Not sure ANY kind of "NWS" warning would be sufficient to allow those of us who DON'T want to see that to avoid that thread. I can, however, imagine three members (yourself included) encouraging him in whatever "pulling" he's admitted to doing.

Cool-io....that way you'll have accurate basis for meaurements and have original molds in case they're ever needed. Uhm...put them in a safe place.

Late to the party as usual but it sounds like your head is already where it needs to be Barb! There are lots of great medical professionals out there, but I've also met a few in my life who give truth to the old saw that: "a man whose only tool is a hammer sees every problem as a nail" (and surgeons sometimes only think in terms of solutions involving their knives).

That little speech your surgeon gave you went way beyond CYA, Barb. I don't think he wanted to do the surgery under any circumstances, but he was frightened to say so after building your hopes up for so long - so he made it "your decision" but took away any chance you could say yes. What a loser...

Enjoy the Holidays - you're the perfect you!

Well said, sir!

Alternately, you could forego surgery and learn to talk out of your ass.

It's worked for years for a lot of us.
Yanno, I considered that, but when I was told I had to become an admin on FJRFORUM in order to become qualified, I bailed.

A girl's gotta maintain some self respect!

 :p  ;)
