My computer had home died. No love lost since it was given to me back in 2003. I came to work today to tool around on the internet since the local library frowns on me when I bring in pizza and pop while I surf the web.

The first choice was Sony until I compared apples to apples and Sony is more expensive. HP's are nice but most of their notebooks have amd processors and I rather have Intel. Gateway has too many reliability issues so that's off the table.

I'm looking at my first notebook purchase ever and I think I've narrowed the choices down to either a Sager or Asus. Anyone here have experience with these notebooks? Where did you buy?

What screen size do you have and what is your feedback on it? I don't think I want anything larger than a 15.4 and smaller than a 13.3. I will travel some with the notebook but most of its usage will be at home on the couch while I watch tv.

Feedback & advice?

I've had a Dell Vostro 1400 for over a year and I really like it. Paid $700 for it at the time. I also still have a Dell Inspiron 8000 that I bought in 2001 my wife still uses every day.

MY brother sold computers at a "big box" chain store. Sonys were the most returned computers. They just aren't reliable.

Lenovo (IBM) laptops are reliable but pricey.

Buy from Costco if you can. Computers have a 90 day return policy. That came in handy when the hard disk on my HP laptop took a crap after 3 weeks.

I had a Sager, and thankfully, didn't live far from their offices in City of Industry. It was a great computer, and had a lot of features on it, but I was never 100% comfortable with its reliability. After that, my company provided me an IBM (now sold by Lenovo, which has made them for a while) Thinkpad. It wasn't a bad machine, and its still in use today. I went ahead and replaced it with my own Macbook Pro 17, and really like having the ability to use both Mac and Windows at the same time.

My company is now buying Dells, and I haven't seen any issues over the last 2 years with them.

After more research and talking with the cute sales chick at Best Buy I'm leaning towards a mac. Not sure if it's because it's a more reliable notebook that can run both osx and windows or it's because she is cute and she has an apple.
