Sorry for the new post, but couldn't find the one I thought I read somewhere about this issue (well more of how this bike just IS). When I come to a stop my bike does this little chug a lug rather than a smooth transition from rpm to idle. It never feels like it is going to die, but there is a double hesitation coming down from about 2000 to 1100rpm when I am off the throttle. It occurs pretty much at the same rpms once around 2k or lower and then the other around 1500rpm. Hard to explain, but I think other AE riders may know what I am trying to explain. I assume this is the clutch disengaging of some sort.

I read somewhere about some possible throttle techniques that help with this deal, but now cannot find that thread. I have no issues on launch unless I am way too wimpy on the throttle (yes I have killed it twice in four days - both in my driveway! Embarassing with my buddies around to say the least).

As an aside, does the PCV and autotune clear this up on the coasting to stop? I did the throttle bodies this morning and still have the issue, although I have no idea if that would be related on this bike.

Possibly, but doesn't feel exactly like it. I am taking the bike into Roseville Yammy on wednesday and will ask the techs about it. The service manager rides an FJR I believe so I am hoping he can shed some light.

 
Sounds like either some badly sticking clutch actuator or the engagement timing isn't adjusted right. I couldn't kill the engine on my bike even if tried...

 
Are you seeing a jump or dip of rmp or just the engage/disengage of the clutch. Mine kicks in/out are approx 1500 rmp.

If I want the clutch to remain engaged for slow speed maneuvering, drag the back brake in order to keep rpms up (clutch engaged) and speed down. The rear brake becomes a slow speed replacement for manual clutch feathering.

I also bumped up my idle to just a touch over 1k, that smoothed things out a bit as well.

+1 on killing the engine: I find it impossible to stall an AE. I can roll out "wimpy" in 3rd gear from a stop and NOT kill the engine.

What are you idling at?

Someone correct me if I'm mistaken, but my understanding is that a properly setup AE cannot be stalled, period. I certainly have never killed mine in 6000 miles.

Certainly my AE saved me from a drop the other day when I was practicing parking lot maneuvers and tried to turn at full lock without enough throttle, the clutch pulled in and I saved the bike. I would have droped an ordinary FJR.

My idle is 1100, but the chug is still around after the 600 miles I have put on it in the past 4 days. It will be at the dealer Weds. I suspect it needs to be adjusted.

 
I have not stalled it since the first day. I was WAY too light on the throttle when it was bone cold and it died. The chug is gone after the dealer service. He adjusted the doohicky and thingamajig and now I only feel the clutch when I come to a slow, creeping stop. Feels fine now.
