Why do I need one on the FJR to operate the flappy thing? As my model has no leaver option, it just seems pointless tech (and it looks crap :p )
We can probably thank the lawyers for the button. :angry2:
Your probably right. Hey, the owners manual dosn't tell you not to dry it in the microwave. Hmmmmmm........ ;)

Can anyone share which wire on the ECU or the YCCS mudule under the seat that this can be attached to? The under dash area is so crowded.

When I made my Do (nearly) Everything Controller (links here and here), I picked up wires under the left front fairing that go directly to the button. They are coloured black/blue (the groundy one) and brown/blue.

Probably not as convenient as under the seat, but I was doing everything at the front. However, these wires go (via a connector) back to the MCU with the same colours, so I expect you can find them there.

As an aside, I did some experiments on the timing of the pulse needed. Too soon after the ignition is turned on and the computer ignores the button press (try turning on the ignition with the button pressed). In the end I delayed about 150 milliseconds to the start (50 milliseconds was too short a delay), and had a 200 millisecond pulse (100mS was too short). This on my 2010, which may be a little different from my previous 2006; I seem to remember it would activate with the button held in. But then my memory is completely shot, so who knows?

Like mcatrophy, I connected everything up front, under the left front fairing, rather than under the seat, and I only modified parts of the wiring harness that could be unplugged from the main wiring harness, a minor point that seemed important to me.

Rather than deal with a delay after turning on the ignition, I simply use the same circuit that turns on the headlight after engine start. The result is that, in my case, the AE enable circuit gets energized a split second after engine start, regardless of how long after 'ignition on' that turns out to be. Works slick and has been 100% reliable.

All in all, this is a mod that's similar to a wireless remote control for your TV. No one really needs such a thing, but once you've had it for awhile and get used to it, you'll be damned if you ever want to be without it.
