I rode an AE yesterday and couldn't believe how smoooooooothly it shifts. Much smoother than I could ever do. The only downside I saw was at the initial friction point takeoff was slower compared to my 05 ABS (which I just sold to get an AE) and there was a subtle shudder in the clutch at this point.
I spoke with the owner of the dealership who races on the track. He said he'd ridden it a bit and thought that the paddle shifting would be the best news since sliced bread on a race bike. Smooth transitions are faster on the track. He thought it might take a couple years but hopes to see R1s with paddle shifters.
