I was riding back from Decatur today and took some random back roads to avoid the super-slab.. I ended up on hwy 33 through Bankhead National Forest.

It was a pretty good road for central Alabama  Lots of tight turns, up one side of the 'mountain' and down the other...

It did have more than it's share of logging trucks though, but they were all on their side of the road...

I also met some guys at a bike shop on Hwy 72 outside of Athens called 'Barely Legal Bikes'. Looked like they work on all varieties of crotch rockets...

There was another FJR owner hanging around there named Mike I think... Nice to meet you man.

That's my old stomping grounds... I grew up in Moulton. Actually my first ride on a motorcycle (a Honda Nighthawk 750) was on Hwy 33 through Bankhead. If you take that past Double Springs down to Tuscaloosa it continues to be a pretty good ride.

However, my favorite ride in AL was from Leeds to Vincent over the mountain on Hwy 25... there's also a great biker's resort called 29 dreams along that route. Ought to visit it sometime.
