A group of us went on a nice little 170 mile jaunt up the road to a beautiful canyon in NE Alabama. I had never been before but I am told it used to be a great ride.

The only problem is the road dept has come in some time in the last month or two and scariffed the road down to more or less loose gravel with a hair of tar to keep it together. It would not appear they have any intention of doing anything further at this time. THIS ROAD IS DANGEROUS TO BIKES! STAY OFF CR 275 /148 (see map)

We had two bikes go down (no injurys and just a little cosmetic damage thank goodness) and one get stuck on the side he slide off the road but was able to stay upright until we helped push him out.

Dangerous place here

The BMW guy said the boxer engine worked as his slider :D

When he went over I was already off my bike trying to help the first guy. As I ran I even lost footing on the road. As we contiued down the road we all slid (lost traction) several times and we were keeping it under 20mph.

Once we cleared this section of road. The ride was much nicer and became enjoyable. Co rd 176. We had several look-out points of the canyon

PS.

AN 06 FJR (Starting in 4 th place just to be fair) will out run a WARRIOR, A VICTORY, And a GS

I've been up there a couple of times, but never tried to take the road you had problems with. I'll keep your warning in mind the next time I'm up that way. Oh, great pictures, btw.

Little River Canyon is a great destination, but I recommend going during the week if you want to take the curves quickly. On nice weekends, the slow-moving looky-loos, bicyclists, campers, etc. are out in force. Relax and take in the beautiful scenery on those days!

Update:

I went back to Little River and the road is better. Not great mind you but a LOT better that it was back in May. Most of the loose gravel is swept away but some is still gathered in the curves. Still use caution, but you don't have to ride at 5mph just to keep the bike up now. aprox 30 mph or so should be safe.

Nice country would be worht the ride down there, except I my bike of choice would be a dual sport.

Looking at some of those pics and seeing the river and trees reminnds me that the scene from the

movie' Deliverance' was shot there weekend rider :D
