Can anyone recommend a reputable mechanic in/near Albany? Found this mint 450 Rebel for a new rider. Ran perfectly last summer/fall. Middle of winter started leaking oil in his unheated garage. Seems to have leaked out completely, yet no leaks prior to that time. Dealers won't work on it due to age (or more likely insurance issues). Any help would be much appreciated!

Thanks, George

About 90 minutes from Albany, but the only good mechanic I know is at Holsapple's in Bearsville, NY. They used to be a Yamaha dealer but not they sell three wheelers and boat motors. The mechanic is very good and works on just about anything.

Might give End of the Trail a call in Stephentown-about 20 miles East of Albany on Rt. 43-518 279 9229. Good mechanic if not to busy.. That would be the wrong number-correct one is 518 733 6471

Thanks for the prompt replies. Turns out that about 40% of total oil dripped over the 4 winter months. Topped it off, warmed it up and shut it down. Still a very occasional drip so he'll take it for a ride and see what happens. Can't seem to pinpoint source but I suggested he confirm that the drain plug is tight!! Wish it were that easy...

also make sure you don't strip the oil drain plug and that it is not already stripped. then make sure there is a sealing washer on it. don't know what type oil filter it has but that would be my next point of interest then i would check the left side cover in the front(mag cover) to see if thats where the leak is coming from. after that it would be shaft seals the most likely being the shift shaft especially if the bike has been dropped even lightly as that can cause the shaft to get bent which will cause leaking when allowed to set and not stay working. hope this helps if you have any questions feel free to pm me as i don't come here often.
