While riding in the far right lane coming through an area where a State highway merges on to I-5 in Tacoma Wa. I noticed a Mazda Miata merging on to, and across several lanes. I saw that the driver was doing the classic lean forward and check the side mirror only while crossing multiple lanes. I was traveling a bit faster than her but was slightly behind her. I knew that if I didn't slow down and she came into my lane that I would be at her door when she came over. Knowing that she wouldn't see me and pretty sure she was coming all the way over I hit the brakes and got ready to give her both barrels. :gun: I've got to say 'I love this horn!'. I let her have about a 3-4 second blast of my Stebel compact nautilus. The thing that really made me mad was that she kept coming over into my lane! :grrr: The vehicle in the lane next to me must have figured out what she was going to do as well and slowed down. This gave me about a 6-7 car length opening in the lane next to her. As I pulled up pointing my finger at her, yelling obscenities (no gestures), I saw that she had her right hand over her heart and appeared to be breathing hard. :angry03: A little while later I got to thinking that if this happens much more I may have to start carrying a defibrillator. Skyway, do you have anything that will help me mount one of those things on a rear peg or something?

Anyway I'm done venting and want to thank FJRandy for all his help configuring the horn and his insight on how to install it with little modification to my '03 and later no modification to my '06.

One more thing, I love this horn. :smilingsmiley:

As teerex51 of the Italian FJR Forum would say, "It'll knock the paint off of the *** end of a Ritmo".

Heh heh heh...that phrase brings back fond memories of scaring the bejeesus outa Fiat drivers all of 25 years ago (Dang, JW you're old... ).

BTW, this is a POS Fiat Ritmo...a cage that became famous for its brain-dead drivers :p

And yes, I , too, have the Stebel horns with the FJRandy harness and love'm...

Thanks for the post. I just googled and bought one... (you guys are expensive to know, always with the toys and I LOVE!! TOYS!! :D

A quick follow up to my commute later that day. I had my second cager try to merge into my lane as I was just slightly ahead of his drivers door. The first one happened two days prior!!! :dribble: I don't understand how this guy missed seeing me, his female passenger sure saw me and was still looking :flirt: when he started to merge. I love the fact that this bike gets the girls attention. Unfortunately the interest leaves as soon as I take the helmet off to talk to them. I think it has something to do with the bugs on my visor (must be). :derisive: Again the horn woke his dead a$$ up. I'm glad I'm not the only one who bought one of these and think they are definitely one of the top five farkles you should have on your bike.

Wow! My handywork at work! :yahoo: Good to see you guys putting the horns to use.

I got to use my compact Nautilus less than 24 hrs after I installed it. On my way to the ST.N national in WV last year, I was traveling down RT81 in VA when an 18 wheeler came over into my lane without even looking. I leaned on the button and he slowly moved right back into his lane and gave a "sorry" wave out the window.

Now if a big rig like that can hear it, it should scare the bloomers off a bluehair.

+1 on that FJRandy.

What I thought about doing is mounting some of the Hyper lights somewhere on the bike that I could mount sideways and toggle on and off when in heavy traffic. I usually watch other drivers as I'm overtaking and passing them so I get a feeling what to expect from watching them. Most of the time I ease up to them then speed up and overtake them quickly while moving to the outside of my lane to increase distance. What I can't do is keep looking at the driver next to me or slightly behind me to make sure he is still awake and not drifting into my lane. If I could find a place to mount them and a way to toggle them I might actually try this hairbrained idea. :hyper:

So here you are driving up to a red light in the left lane, a driver is ahead in the right lane stopped waiting on the light to turn green with his window rolled down taking a sip of some hot coffee as you slowly pull up next to him... do you blast the horn or not? I couldn't do it. But it was the thought that counted. Would you? :D thumbs up on the Nautilus & FJRandy!

yes....

and, when i worked for fire rescue, i'd use the air horn when we pulled up to 'person down' calls that were nothing more than urban campers...

and to confess: only the wiring harness is in place, the rest of the directions confused me...
