On 6/17 Sunday at 3:30PM I was heading east up Decker Canyon Rd in Malibu Ca. when I nearly collided with a dark cherry FJR that was coming toward me in my lane. As I was preparing to enter a very tight right hand turn, I noticed this bike in the far right side of my lane coming at me. I hit the brakes and he went by me still in my lane. This person created a very dangerous situation for the both of us.

If he is a member of this forum, I hope he reads this and gets some training and learns how to keeps his bike in his lane especially when cornering.

It really scared the crap out of me.

Thanks

Twern't me, I was doing Tioga pass in Yosemete. Glad you both escaped with your bikes and bodies intact!

03silverbullet, glad you were able to react the way you did. :clapping: I know you're a competent rider and many riders would have froze and the outcome would have been nasty. <_<

Boy, talk about apexing a turn...Even if he is a member, I'd be surprised if he has the sack to admit his error. Just because people ride doesn't mean they know how.

He obviously doesn't subscribe to my "Stay right, stay alive" philosophy. I like to keep my whole self (including my head) in my lane when cornering, and give the max margin of error for oncomers that stray.

I got a bit of a surprise Sunday on Sonora Pass when an oncoming WRX went a bit wide on a tight left I was sharing with his tight right-hander. If I was hanging my head over the centerline, as I've seen many do on group rides, it could have been ugly. The situation would also have been avoided by delaying entry until the exit was visible. Another good alternative, just not the one I subscribe to on most mountain situations. I usually only apex when I can see the exit before I turn in.

Holy Crap :dribble:

Us elitist FJR owners have to admit it. Some of us FJR riders are really crappy riders.
+1 ...and sometimes it's me. I have made some pretty crappy passes...so shame on me. However, I do not cross the centerline when cornering except on the rare Oh-Sh*T moment. Don't ride with me or follow my technique... though I am much better than when I first got the bike. If I get into a bad pass it is usually because of poor judgement combined with lack of patience...

Another case of "Just because they own the bike....it doesn't mean they know how to ride it".....similar to HD riders & cornering.....glad it wasn't your time....

I'm not really looking for the guy and I doubt that anyone would confess to this, I just hope this guy is more careful next time.

Perhaps a little training would help.

Thanks for all of your input guys.

+1 on that! There are a lot of 50+ riders that a HD is the first bike in their lives and they totally scare me

Got stuck behind a rider yesterday (on a new or damn clean HD incidentally) who looked very unstable on the bike and when entering the freeway he was doing no more than 20-25 on the cloverleaf and wobbled everywhere trying to deal with the curve. He was in serious need of an MSF course and some training before he got out there. Once on the interstate he was doing 50-55 in the middle lane tying up traffic but he looked too scared to get over.

Glad you are OK out there after the incident!

Let's hope the guy just made one big mistake that he will learn from. Glad this turned out as well as it did for you.
