New skins going on the FJR and I will take a short ride on Thursday morning to scruff them in. I have a dirtbike ride currently loaded into the Garmin right now that I need for Friday & Saturday. When I get home Saturday night I will switch over the GPS to the CFR routes.

It's going to be a busy next couple of days but it will all be worth it :yahoo:

Guys, I need some weather and routing assistance. Some of Motorcycling's Best and Brightest are on this Forum, just observe Bustanut joker as an example, so I am hoping I can get some input from you fine folks before We Stanley Boys shove off at this time tomorrow. I had breakfast with my best buddy SkooterG and we got to discussing the nasty weather that has been hitting Texas, Oklahoma, Missouri, Illinois, Indiana and Ohio. SkootyG helped his old Papa Chuy out by using Google Maps to create three possible routes, posted below, for us to consider:

Low road, 2666 miles: This was the routing that MapQuest also suggested going to Montreal, but it is also the route where the nastiest weather now seems to be concentrated.

https://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&source....942383&z=5

High road, 2775 miles: I am leaning toward this one because it is only an extra 110 miles and an extra two hours. Chicagoans: What is the weather doing on The Great Lakes right now? Cleveland, OH?

https://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&source...ie=UTF8&z=5

REALLY Low road, 2890 miles: This one is out of consideration for us due to the extra 225 miles and three extra hours. Would be a backup though, if weather turns to crap on routes #1 and #2.

https://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&source...ie=UTF8&z=5

So, only an extra 110 miles or so to go the northern route on 80.

Papa Chuy...,

The weather appears to be crappy all over at the moment... but not the REALLY awful weather on the Mapquest-suggested shortest route. Much as I hate the traffic around Chicago and the south end of Lake Michigan, I'd opt for your middle route and deal with the expected rain etc.

We're off this morning and hoping the weather cooperates somewhat ... been raining hard here all night, supposed to be pretty much like that right across the Prairies.

Oh well... someone once said there's no bad weather, only lousy gear...

Good luck, ride safe, and see you in Tremblant amigo

Griff

Thanks, Griff! SkooterG just called me on the telephone and we discussed this further. He is of the same opinion as you, the weather is crappy all over at the moment and every route now is just a crap shoot, but the Chicago and the south end of Lake Michigan does appear to be the very best route: This'll be the route we'll go with, maybe WheatonFJR will deliver donuts enroute to We Stanley Boys!

Same to you, Griff: Good Luck, Ride Safe and see you in Tremblant; mi Compadre! If you see Bustanut joker before I do, go ahead and give him his first jimmy-kick of the CFR 2010 Event from all of us!

Papa Chuy.

There are a lot of miles of 'flat and straight' crossing Nebraska and Iowa. If you take weather out of the equation then I'd rather ride across Oklahoma and Missouri.

Check out the radar map on www.intellicast.com and you can see where the wet stuff is coming from or heading to (in a generally easterly flow).

Beemerdons................. Nosecone and I are leaving from just north of OK City Friday morning. We're riding up I-44 to StL, I-70 to Indianapolis, I-69 north and around Detroit, crossing into Canada at Port Huron and work our way up to Mt-Tremblant on the Canadian side.

I'll be sure and station a sheep crossing area on I 69 for you, Beemer, and nosecone petey.. Exit 105, just a few miles to the south of me should be a good spot.

If ya would please keep the Blue/Grey one away from Beemer would ya? I don't want her or her reputation sullied

:jester:

Bustanut

I was just talking to Beemerdons, the way Nosecone and I are going up. We're not riding up together. So, all we need at the crossing is two sheep, ok.

Bust, you were able to get an appointment at the beauty salon to get your bikini wax and your roots tinted before leaving then. I know you were concerned you wouldn't get those items done in time!

Tint his roots? You're assuming he actually HAS hair...

Safe travels to all who are or will be on the road.

We're gonna head out on Saturday for Buffalo to see the sister-in-law and her family (and to get some wings at the Anchor Bar, the place where Buffalo wings originated), then we'll mosey up to BugR's on Sunday.
