OK.... am I reading this correctly?

In addition to being dis-qualed from VIR, toward the end of the above transcript, DMG officials also suggest that both Mladin and Tommy Hayden will be dis-qualed from Road Atlanta as well?! Apparently, the crankshafts in their VIR motors are "non-homologated", and the very same type of "non-homologated" crankshafts were found in their Road Atlanta bikes, too!

Following removal of the left-hand engine covers (from Road Atlanta), tech inspectors noted that the crankshafts from the No. 6 and No. 22 Suzukis were the same as the non-homologated part from VIR.
So it appears that Mladin will be disqualed again.... if so, that wraps it up for Spies; he takes the title for the third year in a row....

AMA Racing certainly has become a circus these last few years..... <_<

I like the new required uniform for tech inspectors: https://www.superbikeplanet.com/image/2008/.../SunATL25_1.htm - seems they might need it :)

Seriously, though, I find it interesting that Mladin gets the short end of the stick, especially since none of the "modifications" appear to be performance enhancing. "the date of manufacture marking system; the difference in how the journal bearing codes were engraved" - whoa nelly, that's 20HP right there, I'll have to get that done to my FJR! I can see a fine, but not disqualification.

And every single time, they say "There's a lot of rumors out there that this is politically motivated. It's not true. It's certainly easy to connect the dots, but it's just not true." - hmmmm. I can say I sure as hell won't be at Bike Week or Biketoberfest this year, or VIR or any other AMA event.

Monkey phukin' a football comes to mind. Why the hell wouldn't the mechanics make sure Mladin had a homolugated crank after being nailed in the previous venue? They haven't determined whether it was a performance increase, but he's screwed either way the way that guy sounded. Crazy.

I might be wrong, but it was my understanding that at Road Atlanta, Mladin & Hayden were dq'd only from that qualifying session -- that is, their times from that session were disallowed. It ended up not affecting the race significantly since they qualified 2nd & 3rd in the next session. I don't think they're dq'd from the race.

You are correct.

Oh hey... good point! I totally missed that. OK, that's more inline with the infraction, and not as out of proportion as I thought.
