It was about the same as that. What kind of sandpaper are you using? Wet or Dry?
I was using some woodworking finishing paper. I'd have to go find my old posts to see what the grits were.

It does take some persistence.

I'll try Ross' carbide idea.

Paper on flat smooth surface. Shim on the paper with a little water. Finger on shim and move in a figure 8 with moderate pressure. I used a good digital caliper to check thickness frequently. Micrometer is more accurate but caliper is faster and I was satisfied with my accuracy. Verified by measuring known shims and feeler gauge blades with the caliper. I went through about two or three pieces of 220 grit to do 6 shims.

Does anyone have a copy of the metric version of the spreadsheet that I can download? My micrometers are metric and I'll buy metric feeler gauges. Thanks

Too bad there isn't a way to save the spreadsheet without subscribing to DropBox. It could come in handy but, I'm not entering financial information for a service I almost never use.

I didn't have to enter any info to download it.

I thought that was the case - it certainly used to be. Seems to me Dropbox asks you to join and provide info, but you don't have to in order to download.
Correct. I forged ahead and was able to download it without subscribing to anything. Thanks all!
