and he walked away

 It appears the motorcyclist was angling over to the left of the lane when the minivan just plowed into him.

Glad the guy was able to walk away with just bumps and bruises.

It looked brutal to me.

Yup, I would have to say the motorcycle cut infront of the other vehicle. CHECK THOSE BLIND SPOTS! Lucky guy to have been able to walk away.

Yep. Had to go look again but you're right. He appeared to cut in front of the guy that hit him. Always turn your head and look. I HATE it when a car appears beside me unexpectedly. Its like a slap in the face. "Wake up dummy, how did that guy get there without me knowing he was coming." Situational awareness.

Three of the most important habits any motorcyclist needs to develop. HEAD CHECK, HEAD CHECK, HEAD CHECK.

I've had that "slap in the face", too. Head check habit saved my life.

Yeah I can notimagine getting hit like that from behind

Hey repairman- your bikes look just like mine--

Hey newsantafe!

Ooops! I got caught. It was just wishful thinking on my part that my stable might one day house both these beauties.

I get this way after coming back from the EOM and seeing all the beautiful new BLUE FJRs. I really wanted to find somebody there that would let me just sit on an 06 to see how it feels, but with my family with me I really didn't get enough time to spend out side during the tailgate party portion of the meet.

Like I told Slapnpop and my buddy Brazos Parker, if Yamaha makes available to the US market a Shift Red FJR for 07 with electronic cruise control I'm in BIG trouble. I'd be forced to let go of my little red hot rod to upgrade to the more user friendly model. Angie would actually support that decision. She likes the FJR very much too.

I absolutely love my 06 FZ1 and it would kill me to part with it, but my wife wants to go with me more often than see thought she would and we aren't all that comfortable two up on the FZ after 40 to 50 miles or so. That bike is, IMO, meant to be ridden solo, hard and fast through the mountains I live in. Not a lot of fun riding slow with another hundred pounds on the rear, and she doesn't like the pillion pad too much either.

My dilemma is how do I keep both bikes? I'm working on that but no good solution as of yet. I may have to get a second job and hide the FZ1 there when the FJR gets here. :clapping: If they end up both being red and she never sees them together she won't make the connection.

Roger

PS ...love your bikes!

No problem at all- I was flattered to see them there- My problem was when I had the 02 FZ and my FJR folks were like why have 2 of the same bike? But with the 06 FZ and my FJ, the look nothing alike now. It is pretty hard to hide a bike in the garage at my house, because my wife rides her own bike. She has an 05 Vstar 1100. So when I got the FZ, passenger comfort was not a thought. In fact I have taken the rear pegs and brackets off. I have made a ton of changes to my FZ so far, and like you it would kill me to get rid of it.

There is another member here, "petey", that also has an FJR and a new FZ1. I've seen his posts on both owners forums and he loves his newest bike also. I see him defending it's attackers during all the performance criticisms just as I tend to do.

The FJR owners seem to like the new FZ1 as much or more than the majority of FZ1 owners. A lot of 1st gen FZ owners don't like the new model at all so you may be a rare specimen to have owned and loved both.

My only other modern fuel injected bike to make comparisons with was an 04 Honda ST1300. That thing was way too heavy (a real pig in stop and go situations), too whiny (sounded like a loud electric motor), and had a very snatchy throttle transition from off to on at any RPM (much worse than my FZ1).

I never really liked the big Honda and it was boring to ride after while as well as really not all that comfortable, at least like you would think it would be. It was a Gold Wing wanabe and the only thing it had going for it was the protection from the elements and ability to carry some gear. My first ride on the 06 FZ1 I knew I had made the right choice than to keep the ST.

I haven't ridden an FJR yet but I really don't think I'd be disappointed because I fully understand it isn't an FZ1 but has to be more sport like than the Honda ST1300. I know Honda builds great bikes but I've always been partial to Yamaha and the FJR just looks like what I'm looking for someday. I'll cross that bridge when the time is right and when Yamaha makes a few more small changes.

Somebody will get a great deal on my FZ1 someday. It's the best street bike I've ever ridden even in it's stock form and they are rare as hens teeth in my area so I won't sit on it long should I make a move.

Thanks again for being so understanding about letting me smuggle a photo for my avatar.

It's a madness! :yahoo:

Roger

Took me a try or to but I changed it back to the Red Power Ranger.
