Hello folks. Brand new FNG here on my first FJR. 2005 model. Blue. I've ridden all my life (well, since I was about 13) and have had all kinds of bikes. Street bikes included KZ400, KZ900, SX1100, GS550, V45 Magna, V65 Magna, ST1100, FLHT "bagger" Harley and now a fine running FJR. I currently also own 3 ATV's and race a 2007 YZ250 at hare scrambles and enduro's in the senior 40 B & A classes depending on how I feel.

In my YZ I run Engine Ice in my cooling system. This stuff really works for the dirtbike circuit and lowers temps by as much as 50 degrees which keeps power up in the arm pulling range. Has anyone tried running it in the FJR to help lower temps in that furnace under the tank? I am thinking of doing it very shortly, but wondered if it worked for anyone else. I have already added some foam around the fairing near my legs but that barely worked. Hmm, wonder how it would look without the lower fairing period? Let me know some of your heat remedies if you don't mind.

dont try to run your engine cooler, it isn't designed for it

instead try to more efficiently control the heat as it is moved away from the engine - thermal wrap on the pipes or ceramic coat them, free up the flow from the muffler / remove cat converter

I haven't done either mod to my '05 (some seem to run a bit cooler), but those who have rave about the improvement.

How many miles does yours have? - seems the heat decreased somewhat after 10K or 20K miles - about the same time the mpg improved...

One of the major changes for 06 was the heat management system which now works. I rode an 03 and it was ridiculously hot. And I had an st1300 at the time.

Ran Ei through my system for 2 coolant changes. Don't waste your cash. The proper coolant works fine. I didn't see any noticeable difference and the cost is far too high for the placebo.

At least you are in CO and not coastal NC. You should try an 05 in 98F and 90% humidity. Like riding a microwave.

Put a PC-III on it and thermal insulate under the tank. It works wonders.

Oh yeah, Engine Ice is BS. Save your money for the PC-III.

UHmmmmmmm. If you read my post, you'll see I've ridden plenty of HP and STYLE and currently race. I know a heat flaw when I see it, especially when there have been improvements to later models. Thanks for all your tips though!

Here is a link to the PC III. A little computer that plugs in easily and changes the fuel mapping. Works great, not cheap though.

Thanks for that info. I take it either type of insulation installs with double stick tape over the existing insulation?

Only have about 4K on the bike now. Guy never rode it. I love the aluminum bracket mod! I need to try it and the thermal blanket idea's. Thanks much.
