The problem starts with the fact that the spaces in our parking lot at work are too small, about 7.5 feet wide. It didn't used to be a problem, as everyone pretty much ignored the lines and parked where they could fit. But then the building managers started handing out tickets if you weren't inside the lines, forcing everybody to squeeze into the spaces.

So, I come back from lunch today, and when parking my car, I noticed that the Corvette (red C5 w/vanity plate) on my right was parked to the extreme left of the space, with his rear tire actually touching the line. I get a call from the building people about half an hour later, asking if I could move my car, as the guy next to me says he can't get into his car. OK, sure. I go down to move my car.

Mr. tan, blonde, middle-aged, body builder type comes out (yeah, I'm middle-aged, I'm just describing the facts) thanking me for moving my car and telling me how rude I was for parking there and how he's been waiting for half an hour to leave. I point out that his car is actually on the line, and how the parking lot is really too small, etc, after which he proceeds to threaten me ("You want to discuss this some more? Come out here and let's discuss this some more! I would hate for your door to get messed up.). After I closed my door I don't know what he said but he was saying it pretty loudly.

I can see the parking lot from my desk, and guess what? He's back less than half an hour later. This time he's backed into the space, again with his driver's side hugging the white line on his parking space. What was so important? I bet he can see his car and the parking lot from his office, too.

I never have parking issues when I ride the bike. Sheesh.

More of a personal attitude problem with the Corvette owner than a parking space problem. I've found the same attitude down here with the "Look at me, I have a tiny penis" guys in Humvees and one ton diesel duellie crew cabs.

I've about given up on stressing over idiots, it's not worth it

Not suggesting anyone do this surreptitiously or otherwise, of course, but you do know that spraying a car's paint with brake fluid (esp the DOT 3) will do an excellent job of . . . uhhh . . . taming that annoying gloss? ;)

His tire is on the line? Call building management and file a complaint - enough of those 'tickets' and he'll learn how to park.

I would just make it a point to park next to him and just as close as I could get every stinking day.

He actually said that he checked with the building people and that it's OK for his tire to be 'ON' the line, just not over it.

Yes, I think mirror to mirror, his driver's side with my passenger's side every day!

Are these assigned parking spaces? Does he get there before you every day? I mean, if you have to park next to him then just get there before him and park in your space near the line.

Or, if he's parking on the edge of his spot so the driver on the other side doesn't bang his car with their door then maybe you should back in so your driver side door swings toward his car.

oooooooo, that's evil :)

Geezer,

They're not assigned spaces. I usually arrive before him and I usually park next to a curb on the passenger side, which leaves plenty of room within my space to get in and out.

This guy also has a Harley and a Ford 'Harley' pickup. I am not kidding. The dozen or so times a year he rides the bike, he parks on the sidewalk under the awning in front of the building.

With the car, by hugging the line, I think he's trying to prevent anyone from parking on his drivers side.

And two-doors are longer doors so he can't actually get in..

or if you have a beater car....perfect.

Just take your rusty old beat-up truck in to work, park beside him, centered between the line, and slam the shit out of his vett with your door. then file a greavence aganst him for damages to your truck.

Maybe "Mr. Wonderfully tanned body builder man" should take his precious baby and park it in no mans land, so NO ONE can put a door ding in it.

He may also have an envy problem and want all to notice his ride, so he parks closer to where the building.

Too bad the guy's a jerk. Bikes rule! ;)

Just park next to him with YOUR wheel on the white line, after all if it's not against the rules then you can block him in again :)

It kinda sounds like he's such a skillful driver that he has no idea where the right side of his car is... It also sounds like you could pretty much park in the middle of the parking space, then be "too busy" to move your car. Really, when you're parked in the middle of the space, why is it incumbant on you to move YOUR car?

My thought exactly, he's comensating for lack of something

I actually do have an old beat up pickup... Hmmmm....

No, I'm sure I won't do anything about it. After all, isn't having to live with himself bad enough?
