I got the speech when my 'rents saw my Yami 90cc Dirter parked in the garage one day. I was not old enough to drive (a car) yet and many of lectures later, it was all good. Now the shoe is on the other foot as I have a 17yr wanting a Kawi 650 Ninja. We saw, sat, kicked tires and discussed in depth at the IMS a couple of Saturdays ago in Cleveland. Having him start out with me would be comforting, but I still will/would worry just like my 'rents did.

It's a different perspective for sure. This sport has a very dangerous side that we accept, outsiders especially loved ones have a much harder time at it.

Back in college, my roommate and I shared a little Honda (can't remember exactly the model). Mom hated it and one day when I rode it home, she finally said "Well I suppose I should take a look at this thing you're going to kill yourself on." I only rode that Honda for one summer, and then didn't get another bike until I was about 27 or so. Never told mom I had that Nighthawk (I was in San Diego, she was in Florida). I did, however tell her about getting my pilot's license. She actually seemed less nervous about that than the bike, but she wasn't comfortable with it really. Mom's are going to worry, no matter what. Now my mother-in-law wrings her hands every time we go anywhere on the FJR!

My parents firmly believe that if you ride a motorcycle you are going to die, probably sooner than later, but death is a certain outcome 100% of the time.
Can't argue with that as it's true. Of course, death is also a certain outcome 100% of the time if you don't ride too.

I know what you mean, but as it reads...

Parents and in-laws will always worry about us, much as we'll worry about our own kids.Any life worth living is going to contain some risk.
