I agree that for such a small change, the bike looks a lot different. Not sure if I like it better though.

One thing I would seriously consider would be to remove the FJR logos from the side two repainted panels. Now that they aren't silver anymore those emblems look rather tacky, IMO.

Subtle but unique. Very nice. Black Cherry is second only to Galaxy Blue. The emblem does not look tacky to me at all. I think it was a great idea, and well executed.

Very nice. Garauld (Gary) always does great work. One problem though, that bike is way too clean. Its time to get out and ride to show her off.

The emblem isn't new. It was there to begin with on the silver side panels.

I just think it stands out too much now on the black cherry side panels. Here... check this out:

Nice! I too sot out an '07 rather than take the '08 because of the colour. I think the difference is probably lost on non-FJR enthusiasts but you have no-one you need to impress but yourself. (The fact that you impressed a bunch of your fellow FJR riders is just a bonus! B) )

I have a question though... Although Gary undisputedly does GREAT work, is it really worth shipping the parts out and back rather than have them painted locally? (Sorry Gary, not trying to scare away business, just wondering if I'm missing something here. )

No problemo. If you can have it done locally, all the power to ya - I'm busy trying to build other things. There's quite a bit of work involved - they all have to be sanded and then primed to demote the shine of the silver. Then you need to buy 1/2 pt of Colorrite paint @ $82 and then you'll need clear topcoat. If (when) there's dust involved, you'll need to do some polishing. So, adding it all up, I wonder if you can find a shop that will do them for under $200. I buy the paint a quart ($200) :dribble: at a time for my racks, so I already have some here.

Plus, you are dealing with a stand-up guy whose workmanship is a known. Consider the shipping cost to be the equivalent of an insurance policy that guarantees you are getting a quality job.

Excellent! I'm shocked at how much better it looks without the silver.

As for Garauld - why go local when you can help an fjr bruddah and be guaranteed a great job?

Absolutely. Couldn't agree more.

I got a quote from Gary today on a little paint work.

Even with shipping back and forth, he's still right there with local quotes.

Plus HE rides an FJR....

:good:

The more I look at the black cherry the more I like it. And Gary did a standup job on your 07 to say the least. Painting as Gary mentioned is not an easy process and I always like to deal first with our board members if I can on any services or products offered. Very nice! PM. <>< ;)

As an 07A owner I must say that your bike really looks fantastic. You may have a lot of copy cats and I may be one of them. I think the look of the bike with all black cherry red is really classy. :yahoo:

There is no doubt in my mind that going with Gary will provide the best finish for your buck. He is thoroughly familiar with the ColoRite product line and has developed his techniques so that he gives a consistently excellent product. His prices seem to be more than fair given the quality of his work.

I've done a fair amount of painting in years past, and know that for him to get the excellent match, not only in color but in luminosity and lay of the metallic additives takes a real craftsman. It is easy to spray on a couple of coats of metallic paint; it is something entirely different to have it match the original finish exactly... trust me on that!

Unless you happen to have a true custom painter in your circle of friends, you will get a finished product that is only marginally acceptable from your local body shop. Hell, half the time you can still see sanding marks through the finish :angry2:

Rock On, Gary!

(I have no financial interest in Gary's business... only appreciate a true craftsman's work)

Pardon me, I was not clear. I think the paint job to turn the silver panels BC was a great idea and well executed. Additionally I think leaving the factory-installed emblem on there looks just fine. Of course, it looks sweet without it too.

Thanks for all of your complements, I do owe it all to Gary.

The FJR badges/emblems removed do look kind of stealth.

Thanks
