they only work on long straight roads...

curves, s-curves, rain, daylight or night time void their warranties...

:p :p

They are useless, according to an article I caught in 'Ride Metric'? magazine I believe it was called...about 1.5 yrs ago (didn't suscribe to it, picked it up while on a trip..) The article was very informative, approached scientifically, using experts in audio, deer behavior- researchers, etc. They also noted *dozens* of universities & public safety agencies from around the nation that had done their own testing..they all reached the same conclusion...not even worth a buck, even if you had the doe...(sorry, couldn't help it!). Despite all that, my brother still turns on his electronic one when we go through the forest...guess its a 'feel good' thing..

WOW ... we had a young lady up here in Canada (ont) split a dear in half two weeks back. She pulled out to pass a car at the same time a dear decided to cross the highway. She was wearing full riding suit which help keep her in one peice.

Yikes! That was a pretty bad wreck. What I took out of that is that if possible, don't be breaking hard at moment of impact with f***ing forest rat.

Agreed. From what I saw, the deer was tiny, but he was hard on the brakes - I wonder what would have happened if he'd barrelled through (though the road was very twisty and they were riding pretty hard)?

Whether he braked or not can not really tell only hear the engine rpm decrease.

A f-rat in front like that it is totally unavoidable and that was a nasty fall. I f he escaped with only minor bruises he is lucky. As for the bike that is another story, but can be repaired costly?????

As far as the deer whistles working I have not a clue I say more "NO" than yes.

I think you would have just as much luck putting playing cards on your bike like you did when you were a kid and let them hit the spokes and make that fluttering sound as they go around . jmo :yahoo:

I read a magazine article a few years ago that stated deer whistles (when installed correctly, which is only a small portion of the time), startle the deer. Problem is, by their nature, deer run in whatever direction they're already facing when startled...not necesarily AWAY from whatever startled them. So it's a crapshoot, depending on whether the deer is facing toward the road or away from it. Just an ugly waste of money.
