One thing's for sure, the maturity level here is quite a bit higher than the forum from which I posted the ride report. Check out this closed topic where another member got on his safety soapbox.
Eh... looks like they pulled themselves out of it before it completely disintegrated.. that says a lot in itself.

Comes down to someone not being able to tell themselves "NO" and over-extending themselves. You can only hang your head out there in the wind for so long before something comes along and whacks it.

I look at the pre-ride brief (not that I really ride groups much) much in the same way that I used to view the pre-weekend liberty brief... it's gotta be said, someone has to say it, and maybe...just maybe... someone won't end up dead or in jail before formation on Monday morning.

As we like to say - big boy rules apply. Sure, one of the salts might take time out of their day to try to square you away - but at the end of the day YOU are responsible for YOUR sheeyat.

It seems of late no matter how much Toe or MM2 (or anyone else for that matter) speak out on safety, people just don't care or want to hear it for what ever reason......so on that note maybe it would just be best to let Darwinism take its course :derisive: .....

I gotta say I totally agree with that assessment. When I followed the initial link, I noticed a LOT of the signature lines had some reference to not riding fast enough. I know most times, sig lines are meant to lighten the mood, but I think it also kind of shows their mentality. The guy who crashed mentioned he was riding too fast, and the others that were with him were not happy about the stunts he was pulling. Maybe crashing taught him and some others a lesson, maybe not, but thankfully he is not nearly as hurt as he could have been.

I, of all people, probably shouldn't ***** too much, as I have been known to ride faster than I should have. However, as I have matured, I have learned not to push beyond my limits, and most times, even up to my limits. If we are at our limit, there is no room for error, or error correction, which only leaves crash as an option. I know I am preaching to the chior, so I'll shut up, but it is totally possible to enjoy our rides without trying to kill ourselves.
