Might not be a right time, but you guys might want to look into a scene management courses. They teach on what to do and not to do in such cases. Larry's friends sounds like been to at least one of these courses. Very beneficial. I am going to be taking a refresher this spring. Someones life might swing one way or another base on what you know.

This is the one that I have attended partially because I am an MSF instructor and had to get CPR certification, but would recommend to everyone that rides. https://www.accidentscene.net/index.html

If you click on their schedule you will see that they travel across the states and I am sure they will be glad to accommodate your location if you have enough people together, but not on their radar yet. Great people.

Remember chicks dig scars and do follow the physio's instructions. It will speed up the return to riding while ignoring it will prolong the ordeal. Don't ask me how I know.

From a Email I received today-

Recently over this last weekend of November 26th, Sunday I was hit by an automobile on our way to Big Bear. Hit by no less a small SUV, this ford was able to get the best of my left hip side,and completely destroyed my yamaha FJR. Because of the many friends that I was surrounded with, I was in good hands while I lay injured.


Luckly our group had various experiences of this type, and quickly helped traffic, notify law enforcement, fire department and dispatched ambulance very quickly. I was un aware of many of the courageous deeds our own members did for me, but I was looked after like angels, caring for a sparrow with a broken wing.

Soon I was transported to Big Bear Medical Center then to Kaiser in Anaheim, where I was being prepared for x-rays and emergency surgery on my hip. Instead of full hip replacement, they were able to salvage most of the intacted hip and leg bone and use screws to secure the fused and fractured area. The doctors will monitor the progression of the hip circulation since many hours were spent in transportation between hospitals. I was released from the hospital last night and will recover over the next many months bed ridden at home.

From this message I want to again thank all the guys who were by my side to help with the EMT's, police and other emergency services that were provided. Also the personal companionship and all the visitations from our members that lifting up my spirit, sneaking in food and deserts, and reassuring my wife that things were going to be ok.

I think we have probably the best group of caring folks I've met to date, and just want to thank personally all of you who are a part of Epicurean Riders!

Larry, sorry to hear about the accident. Glad you were not more seriously hurt. Get well soon, I am sure we know that the chances of us getting hit are always there. Glad you had a well informed and good riders along with you. Several weeks ago one of our Ole Foggie Riders lost it and wrecked totally his 05 HD out in Simi Valley. I had to do the same emergency assistance efforts that your group did for you. He is lucky and I am sure you feel the same way. Let us know when you get home, want to pay a visit to you.

No matter what their sorry ass excuse is, we still get to be the dead ones. Who cares whose fault it was at that point, the damage is done. Know that they don't give a rat's ass about your well being and ride (or choose not to) accordingly.
I absolutely see your point and agree, but my point is that our best bet is to modify our own behavior, while we continue to support the AMA and their efforts for legislative reform in our favor.

The line-crossers are a major reason why I always pick my line through corners (and usually in straights unless I'm positioning to pass) within the right 1/3rd of the lane. I may not get to go as fast but I'll always yield the right-of-way to a 3 ton lump of oncoming metal. Giving them as much room as possible seems like a good way to stack the odds in my favor for a return to base under my own power. YMMV

Just Got your message on my cell phone, tonight at 5pm, for the Sunday ride to Big Bear. For some reason, I didnt get the message until now. Otherwise, you know me, I would have been riding next to you, as usual. It could have just as easily been me that got hit! We are always so careful on our trips and I have had the time of my life on our Twisty rides. Reno, San Diego, Big Bear, and all of the favorites. I'm sure you were riding safe as always. I dont know what could have averted this hit.

zz, Sorry to hear about your crash. I too was involved in a minor crash on 11/4 and was lucky enough to have one of the cagers on site be an expert in first aid - not that I needed much. I know the feeling of having the right people being there during our time of need. My wife's orthopedic surgeon just happened to be at the hospital when they brought me in. He took time to look @ my film and advise the ER staff what to do with my mashed knee and make a note to himself to clear some time in his schedule the next week to see me. Some call it co-incident, I call them guardian angels. My thoughts and prayers are with you for a speedy healthy problem free recovery.
