Here's a new one!

In some weird way I really like the looks of the radial bike... must have been due to the fact that in my other life I was a WWII aviator...

What a waste of a perfectly good radial engine. I'll take the one in the background. I don't mind piloting something that has its horsepower hidden under a cowl.

IMHO It would have been more appropriate to use one of those giant plastic model engines that just LOOKS like the real thing. You know, the ones with the LED spark plugs and the plastic tubing for wires.

:D

Notice everyone is wearing shorts? I bet that belt could whip your pants off you so quick you wouldn't know they were gone

As the radial engine is one of the new Down Under designs it doesn't really waste a classic engine.

And here I thought I was the only one!!

Wonder how long the flight lasts with that fuel tank.
Gawd, who cares? Think of the wonderful, hellacious racket that thing must make when it's running! Who needs earplugs?

A bike like that will have so many chicks around it you won't be needin' any pants, either!

Kewl bike! Not a replacement for the FJR, mind you, but a very fun addition to the stable. If you want an eye candy bike that stands out, this one seems like the ticket. And just think, you could prolly buy the whole damn thing for about the same price as a pilots license to fly the plane.....

Just imagine that exposed primary slicing through your left thigh and calf right down to the bone!

Artwork, that's all it is, artwork.

Help out the uninitiated here, I am assuming radial engines are well balanced from their symmetry?

I like the look. The fork is out way too far for it to be fun to ride. And it definately needs some sort of cover over the primary belt. Probably carries plenty of fuel to get from bar to bar.

Indeed, radial engines are well balanced. The one shown is a bit challenged because it is 7 cylinders (can't divide 360 evenly)
Back in the early days of aviation the radial engine had lots of design features going for it that made it superior to the normal inline engines.

This Rotec engine displaces 2800cc; makes 110HP @ 3700 RPM; weighs 225 lbs when fully dressed; sucks fuel at a rate of 5 gallons/hr @ 75% power and IIRC, makes something like 175 lb/ft of torque at 2800 RPM. The engine has a built in gear reduction so that the output shaft is turning 30% lower than the crank speed. Since the Rotec can power a typical air frame with a 72" prop 110 mph at 75% power that makes fuel economy on the order of 22 mpg.

As long as they are using a "Down Under" engine design, they might as well incorporate a barbeque grill for a primary cover. Might as well have appetizers cooking while they go bar hopping! :cheffsmiley:
