Hmmm.... I'm not sure I see quite eye to eye with you here. Love my '05 (and will love it more after the Russell & Suspension Group Buys! :yahoo: Kudos for setting these up), but it seems to me that as soon as Yamaha acknowledged that the valve guides were poorly designed/manufactured they should be ponying up for new valve guides for any bike that becomes a ticker. That's outstanding, Mark!I'll keep you posted as more details arise
It is refreshing to read some positive comments about Yamaha, in light the many recent hate postings by 2007 owners suffering the Altitude Surge problem.
Both your dealer and Yam Australia deserve a hearty pat on the back... good job all around!
Maybe I'm off base here, but having fessed up that the component is flawed, even if it's out of warranty they should be saying, "Yep, our **** up. We'll fix it." Given that there are bikes out there with, IIRC, north of 100,000 miles, anything that fails before then could be argued to be a manufacturer's fault ticker. As opposed to a, say, "Whoopsie ran it out of oil" ticker.
I'd give the dealer a half-hearted pat on the back (A $2000 warranty with a $500 deductible? Bestill my beating heart) and Yamaha would have been happy to stuff him if he hadn't pushed them). He shouldn't have had to, IMHO, beg to get them to do the right thing.
Regardless, glad to hear that you got through the troubles unscathed. That is a good thing.
