another waxing question

Brought the 06 in the house for the winter (walkout basement). Have caught myself constantly cleaning and waxing. Presently have many coats of Pig Snot Biker Wax on the Feejer. The labeling says it contains no cleaners, just non-silicone wax and teflon. So does it help or hurt the bike's finish or am I just polishing my rocket by putting on so many coats? If I over do it will I go blind? Or will I be pleasantly surprised when I get the bike out in the sunshine in the spring?

Yes you can over do it. Especially while waiting for Mr. Winter to blow over in Mich. Too much wax is not a good thing. One application when you put the bike away should do it for the whole winter. I wax every 3-4 months depending on useage. If you can't resist and your super board, just use the touchup detail spray wax, but be careful not to rub the paint off...just kidding. Keeping the bike covered even indoors will help protect the finish. Some say a clean bike is a gay bike around here but IMO clean equals pride of ownership and keeping the bike protected. You might want to add some farkles until spring or a good game of checkers....good luck. PM. <><

Well if your in the neighborhood please do drop in. Maybe I would throw a good coat of wax on your scooter for you. I also have my GSX1100G(93) and three Harleys (friends bikes) in the basement with mine and we could have a "waxing bee".

Ok, a couple of things right off the bat here. First, if you put as much time and thought into foreplay with your wife, you'd be having a hell of a lot of fun and won't even think about waxing your bike.

As long as the "wax" you are using is just wax and has no pumice, it wont hurt your bike, but it wont help either. But there are also new micro-coatings that you can basically wipe on and buff down. According to the body shop trade mags, additonal coats enhance the finish. A cheap version of these is turtle wax ice. Good luck.

This is the "cats ass" in paint protection. Easy on and easy off , plastic, paint etc. Once in the fall and once around july is all you need.

Yuppers I had my very well waxed scooter out today and she sparkled and glistened in the sunshine. The eight or more coats of carefully layed on Pig Snot did a great job. :yahoo: Well for now she comes back in the house for some farkeling: but that is another thread.....

To wax or not to wax? Good question. I believe the better approach is like the cusodians use for floor care commercially. The method they use is to seal the floor than put on the wax usually 3 coats of wax and that would last for several weeks than all you have to do is wax again. The only thing you would get is wax build up. On a motorcycle i do not see that happening because of the harsh condition and enviroment the bike has to perfom in.

For a new bike get it sealed and than wax your life away and let it shine.

What else is there to do when it is snowing out side?

Prior to working in L.E., I had a detail business w/ high end cars and boats. Yes, you can wax too much. Actually had a customer who overwaxed (if that is a word!) his Jag. Stripped it off, gave a light buff and quality wax job, he says oh my God what did you do...

I have used the new synthetic such as the Ice that was previously mentioned and I agree, seems like a quality product. Really like the spray detailer they offer.

Remember, waxing is first to protect your finish. Not much going to happen to it sittin in the garage all winter. A good coat or 2 is good for protection. I wouldn't overdo it.

Haven't you learned ANYTHING from reading this board? You can't keep a Harley(s) in close proximity to a haloed FJR ALL WINTER LONG ----- bad things will happen.
