One of the many perks of my tour overseas, I live about 2 miles from the finish line.

Talk about a population explosion, this 200 year anniversary race has upped this small island population by at least 5 times the normal we see this time of year.

Talk about crowd control or shutting the place down. :dribble:

Race starts tomorrow but the crowds have been showing up pretty steady the past two weeks.

Link to most of the race info.

Something for everybody

-Where is La Maddalena?

I am. I love watching the cycling races. I also ride quite a bit. I put in almost 15,000 miles on my bicycles last year.

The first stage of this years Tour de France passes 100 yards from my house in Chatham. I've watched it for many years on TV and It'll be great to see it live.

I'll also be riding up Alpe de Huez (on the FJR) on my way down to Corsica in June.

Cool Pawtracks. I'd love to be in Europe some day to see some of these road races.

I've got a Trek Madonne 5.2 for riding and a Pilot 2.1 SPA for riding to work occasionally. I actually ride my bikes more than my FJR or WeeStrom which are weekend rides. Riding a road bike is a hell of a way to get and stay in shape. :yahoo:

Old School Trek 5500 here from 1998 but it has been heavily modified. Now has almost 20k miles on her although I cant ride like I used to. Was a Cat 2 racer until I went back to grad school ,got married, had kid, ect...well, nuff said.

My wife and I still do ~150 miles a week though and try to hit the Bike Ride Across Georgia every year but have taken a break for the last 2 because of the kid.

Trek Madonne 5.2 here also. Put a little over 10000 miles on her (the bike) last year.

My wife and I both ride at least 5 days a week.

Great exercise and a good way to spend time together.

I ride a Titanium Lightspeed Ehernberg with Ultegra components. Great road bike and try to average 100 miles a week. Rickysnickers, 15,000 @ year, DAHM! now that's pedaling a bunch!

Hey Pawtracks,

I'm a cycling fan too but when are we going to get a ride report from you?

I know you've been working hard but Spring has sprung...c'mon now!

If I wasn't sitting at work right now I would be home planning that dream ride with Stef and out riding.

I will be gone for the rest of this month and then again for three weeks in June/early July (during that ride :angry2: )

I would have never thought it would take this long to get out for a ride...

The only time I have had off this year was spent on vacation with the wife for 10 days to Germany.

We saw Munich, Garmisch (Germany), Salzburg (Austria), Rome, Pisa, Florence, Vencie (Italy) all in 10 days just last week.

You can see from the picture above that this island I live on is really small, bike route is 25km.

Owning an FJR here is kinda like living in a 300 ft2 studio apartment and owning a great dane (no one gets to stretch their legs) The roads around here are mainly cobblestone, not even enjoyable driving an SUV on much of these roads.

I WILL get a ride in before I leave in August, even if it has to be only one or two.

July and early August are looking pretty good on my calandar.

There is much to ride and discover on the island of Sardinia, just nothing to write home about (FJR wise) on La Maddalena.

I will be moving back to the states this fall (Silverdale, Washington)

We leave here in August and should be all settled sometime around Thanksgiving.

It is only 1300 miles from your place, that would be a nice ride up the coast! <Big Sur> <Big Trees> <etc...>

Delayed response here...

I'm looking forward to the report from your dream ride and yes, I would def. head up the coast to Washington. That would be a GREAT ride!

Unfortunately I won't be making the dream ride, even with it shifting to the right a few weeks.

I get back from my Navy sponsored cruise the same day the ride starts, won't be able to make it. :(

I will have some time to tour the island of Sardinia though, looking forward to rides in July.

Hey,

say hello to Navy Journalist Craig Coleman for me if he's still at La Madelena. Last I spoke with him, he was :)

He used to tell me about the summer population influx. From what I hear, it isn't just the bike race that draws the people. Have fun with the next three month party!
