Ahh, so we do have something in common. I'm also a flight simmer, and built this specifically for FSX. Thursday night, my trusty ASUS A7N8x-Delux puked, Northbridge as far as I can determine, no POST. A local SuperGeek confirmed. Soooo, somehow caught the wife in a good mood, and did a little, ummmm, upgrade.. :p

It's one way to spend the winter. And, a good way.

Needless to say, it does a nice job with my SR71 at Mach 3 through the Rockies now... :yahoo:

I've been an ATI guy forever, but just can't see dealing with crap drivers anymore, and the lack of heat ATI has had lately. This all replaced a 9700 Pro and a XP2600 that was state of the art a few years ago, but man this stuff falls behind faster than I can keep up, I can sympathize with your vid issue. The 8800 is, with 768MB of ram, simply unbelievable. It has more mem than my system had till now. Now I just have to find a decent board that will accept all the hand-me-downs and go into my internet/mapper/worker that I do all this stuff on. Biostar may get the nod.

Rad,

That is one hell of a setup!!! I read that the Asus board you had and have is one of the best. Also, recently, Asus has bought ATI.

Personally, I like my A7N8X Deluxe and the NVidia video board...they are great.

Good gaming and good fun to ya!

Just received and installed FSX. PC is chugging along, time for an upgrade. RIGHT ON!

Any cool expansions or GOTTA HAVE'S for FSX?

Really dig the online flying, usually grab the Bell copter and hover near the runways to watch crazy landings. WOOT!

Counter-Strike Source keeps me entertained when stress needs to be worked off. Love BF1942 also but my "new" DSL sucks ASS compared to the FIOS I had in SoCal.... sigh (wonder if there is a highspeed wireless option where we live way out in the styx)

I did a lot of hosting back when I was into IL2. Quit cuz of all the asshole kids that would teamkill and crap, kinda got away from online gaming as a result. Broadband with a fat signal is the only way to go. Some poor kids, blow them out of the sky and it was a minute before they found out they were meat.... ;)

ASUS or AMD? All my ATI drivers of late were coming from AMD.

I'm a big-time video gamer. But the last time I updated my home PC was for Max Payne, made my old system crawl. Oops, I forgot the X1300 Pro card I popped in to help display larger Lightwave models. I really try to avoid PC games and stick to PS2, XBox 360, and now PS3 games. The issue is the latest patches for games and Direct X and what-not were always messing up my PC and making me crazy. I need my PC functional more often.

Nice-looking system. Antec 650 p/s! Wowsers, I'm making due with one of their TruePower 430's. I want my next PC to be quieter so I'm thinking about water cooling, 150 mm fans, and a damped case.

This system is quiet as a mouse compared to my old one. I have a total of 5 case fans, including a blow hole, all on a speed controller. The cpu uses less voltage, so I don't need the Honda 50 cylinder head cooler I needed with my clocked XP, the source of most of my noise. Water cooling, while neat, is fraught with terror. I mean, it IS water ya know...... :p

Rad,

You are right...it is AMD that bought ATI.... and your system is impressive.

Rad

Nice rig...I am thinking of upgrading to the 8800 but it's about $900 for me and that's just a crazy price to pay, what do you get them for over there in PCIe? I had a play with my last system and the more ram the better raised the frame rate substantially but that's a dear as poison here too. So I'll just have to bide my time and wait for the prices to come down...I could go duel 7900's but we'll see. I'm into helicopters (See Hovercontrol.com for anything simming in Helicopters, the site is the best on the planet) mainly but will fly anything for a giggle, but with the realism as high as you can get it.

Ciao

LOL

Reading this string makes me feel like I'm coming out of the closet. Still lingering on with BF2. Considering a major hardware upgrade but I'm given choices.... FJR.... night out with wife.... Computer.... too many choices and not enough money. So, I'm still trudging along with my A7N8X board.

Nice setup though.

Please enjoy yourselves as you flame the set-up, I did my best considering I been out of the "know" for 4 years and on tight budget. Balance of reliability with performance.

Expecting a new box mid-month:

Intel Core2 Duo processor E6600 (2.4GHz,1066FSB) w/Dual Core Technology

and 4MB cache

2GB DDR2 SDRAM at 667MHz

1GB NVIDIA GeForce 7950 GX2 Dual-GPU Graphics Card

250GB Serial ATA Hard Drive (7200RPM) w/ DataBurst Cache

48X Combo and 16X DVD+/-RW

This box is still only 1/2 utilized, as it is designed for 2 vid cards, 2 dual processors or 1 quad, multiple hd's

750 watts power supply to keep it fed.

I was a gamer and I'm "creeping" back in. Box is built 1/2 assed now so I can add the other 1/2 as tese components go "obsolete" and prices go down on cards, drives, etc. I've got to find out what games I like and what the demands of them are. Otherwise will be used for casual stuff and media center control for theater and zone audio.

I want the whole package but can't do the $5K price tag. (spent bunches on bike and farkles, so at least my priorities are acceptable.)
