After a fail spider connection and a full factory main wire harness replacement... Has anyone ever had another ground spider connection failure???

Just wondering if it is even necessary for me to do any extra grounding since my main harness has been replaced.

If there is a thread or poll on this please post a link. I could not find anything..

Thanks, Smitty

Yup! There's been a few failures of different spiders other than the recalled S4 spider on affected model year FJR's. There's also been a few failures of spiders on 2010 and newer FJR's that supposedly had the recall fix built into the wire harnesses. I started a sticky thread in this forum to track those issues:

There's also a related sticky thread in this forum for failures of spiders other than the infamous S4 spider that was subject to recall:

I've gone almost 80,000 miles on my 07 since my spider failure with no new failures. My S7 spider (in nose cowl near headlight) was cut off and all the wires were soldered together, the recall harness was installed and most importantly I cleaned and applied di-electric grease to all the other spiders. I know some advocate using a conductive carbon grease, but the di-electric grease has worked great for all those miles with LOTS of riding in the rain.

It's interesting to note that the recall sub harness only addresses the S4 spider nest under the tank. It protects the 1 wire that connects the whole daisy chain back to the main heavy gage wire within the main harness that connects the voltage regulator with the battery main terminal. This little wire is a 1mm gage which equates to approx. 16 gage. The recall harness takes 3 of the branches of the daisy chain, along with 2 other devices, and ties them together shortly before it Tees back into the main harness at the large connector before the battery. That's the only protection it affords. All the other spider nests are left alone. In my mind this is just a half-assed patch that Yamaha did to get by the recall requirements.

I have dissected the wire harness from my wrecked '06, but it would be interesting to compare it to the updated replacement harness that Yamaha used on these repairs.

You should probably send it to the dealer and let them do any work because you suck so much at wiring stuff....

I use Noalox on my spiders, works great. No recall, no additional harness, no added ground straps. Takes 20 mins once per yr. IMHO if you expect the recall to solve the problem, you're mistaken. Takes a little effort on your part with connectors, too.
