Just wondering if there are any other ham radio operators amongst us.

I'm interested in knowing what simplex frequencies people are monitoring for bike2bike while on the road, and how you've set your rig up on the bike.

Thanks!

N9AFL, but haven't been active for years. I'd be a little nervous about talking much while riding too - I found a chatterbox pretty distracting the couple times I tried it and almost had a wreck once.

I've hooked my HT up to my Starcom. Audio in is good, but I haven't had a chance to really test it out yet.

I am also a Ham Radio operator.....VE6JHC.

I have a Yaesu VX5 2m handheld for use on the bike but due to the wind noise of my lame helmet I only use it while stopped.

KC8QYC here.

I only run on 2meters for now. Yaesu 1500m in the car and ADI in the shack. In my job i hit alot of cell phone dead spots and the radio comes in handy. Haven't yet put one on the bike but like Vulcan said, i would probably only use it when stopped. Hey Vulcan, How do you like the VX5? Thats a sweet looking radio. AES just had a sale on them.

KC8QYC Clear and monitoring.

I've had a vx5 for several years. Neat radio, but man-oh-man, the buttons are small with almost unreadable legends.

No kidding the buttons are small. I use the Eve software to program the radio and then I just have to twist the knob on the top for the different repeaters. I have a folder of different programs covering different places I travel....make it easy.

Eve is the programing software that another Ham developed. It is free for personal use but you need a cable. I bought the Adams software for Yaesu along with the cable but it is mega lame. The Eve program is far better......sometimes it gets a little hard to find on the internet as it is only hosted a few places.....If you are having trouble finding it PM and I will E Mail you a copy. I also recommend the VX5 pocket referrence book....work the $10.
