this is a 2 lane all twisty ride in western n.c.,,,,heck dont even need a gps,lol

1000-1500 miles

20-30,000 turns

road to remain a secret till the ride is over,"not a deals gap ride but like it"

oct to nov time frame

short notice for good weather window

will be a road 9.4 miles long,1500 miles in 24 hrs,say 156 passes

this is NOT for riders who cant handle their bikes in the corners!!!

I would be (very) interested in such a ride, but the problem (for me) is that I am too far away to get in on a last minute deal, such as you describe.

OTOH, there are a whole bunch of FJR derelicts from that area that hang on the FJRriders.com forum. Some (many?) don't frequent these parts. My understanding is that there are quite a few that would welcome such an opportunity. Try posting over there.

Wait... On second read: You said riding the same little piece of road 156 times?

No, nevermind. That just sounds supremely retarded (unless it is a track)

It's not all things to all people certainly and would be the last kind of LD ride a beginner should try and tackle. And it's not something I'm interested in personally.

But, it's not any more "retarded" doing a 1000 miles in one city in a day is a bad idea, wandering off from Prudhoe at breakfast to have breakfast a few days later in Key West is ill-advised, doing a BBG somwhere, or than somebody claiming an FJR doesn't need to go faster than 80 since none of the speed limits are greater than that on the whole continent.

Yellow Wolf is in a certain league when it comes to being a bubble wonderfully off center and I bet his ride will be fun for the few that want to participate. ;)

You go Boy.

I still think it's retarded.
folks not able to do what others can say stuff like this,i know its not mosts cup of tea and thats ok but i like it and thats all that really matters in the end!
I've seen your videos before Yellow Wolf. I wish I had your endurance! You ride that GL like a boss!

Actually something like this sounds like a royal freaking HOOT!

Talking about a SS1K that requires stamina and your full attention for 24 straight hrs.

Now I'm not the fastest guy in the twisties, but I'd bet my half used Avon rear tire that my times would certainly improve dramatically as the day progressed. Of course by nightfall, my arms might feel 50 lbs heavier.

Sounds both extremely fun and quite brutal yellow wolf.

I guess the SS/BB Cherohala Ride is thought to be impractical...I love that road and would find it fun to ride back and forth all day at speed if the "authorities" wouldn't have a problem

that ride sounded cool but

1- the speeds would have been way high

2-the speed limit is way low

3-critters at nite are a big problem

4-i drive for a living so a ticket there would kill me

5-no way to get advanced warning about cops,to many ways in and out

Hey Woofie,

I think this ride is A-OK, even though I'm the CandyButtAssociation prezidnet and all!

I've kinda wondered how many trips it would take up and down to ride my local twisty, 229, from Creston CA to HiWay 58 and back to get a SS1k done?

You go YW!

I get it totally! This could really be fun!

I'm clear across the country but this is exactly how I advise a new rider to learn their bike. Just pick a canyon and ride until you know it, and then keep riding and watch your skills improve!

For those of us on the west coast, such a thing could be done... say on HWY 36? Of course you would only have to go back and forth a couple times, and I was toast after pushing it one way!

Definetly not a ride for just anybody.

While sounding like a lot of fun, I wonder how many peeps realize how fatiguing this would be?

I consider myself hardcore, but I don't think I would ever consider this. Riding twisties mentally tires me out. I just can't see doing the same road over and over again full of twisties for 24 hours. I would get very fatigued and for *me*, it would be unsafe.

Yellow Wolf is a machine!

You're exactly right. If this is what makes life spicy for you, go for it! (like you need my approval! )

Just doin' the math, 1500 miles / 156 trips is a < 10 mile stretch of roadway. It'll have to be pretty remote (or an actual track) so as to not get the wrong kind of attention from the local constabulary. It sounds like you already have the secret road picked out.

I'm not going to say it's retarded, but I will say it sounds like a PITA. (Literally and figuratively.) Whoever does this ride, gl/hf. Get pics and vids! I want some crash coverage!!

ive already done a ride like this

the dragon, aka deals gap 24 hrs

1001.7 miles

23hrs 52 min

19 mpg

29,786 turns

and funny not one crash and i dont plan on crashing on this next one so sorry to let you down

I know I'd love to do this ride with you yellow wolf, if for nothing else but to count the number of times you lap me in 24 hrs.

Wishin' there were a section of road like that out in my neck of the woods.

I can see why you'd want to do this. I can't see why some people criticize what they can't or don't want to do though. I can't do it. Maybe a 1% chance I complete 1000 miles, but 0% of completing 1500. But I imagine if anyone is going to kick this ride's ass, you will. Good luck, have a fun, safe ride and let us know how it goes.

And uh "crash coverage", poor form. :thumbsdownsmileyanim:
