Long time rider currently on a ST1300 going to look at a low mileage FJR tomorrow. From what I've read all the "features" had pretty well been sorted out by that year (Features-def-I flew a German aircraft for years and problems that couldn't be fixed were deemed "features" as in "Oh...that...it is just a feature of the aircraft..."). Am I missing anything ... or should I look for anything?

All issues solved starting with the 2010 model - you are good to go. Good luck. Me thinks you will like the FJR compared to your ST1300.

I bought my 2010 new this past April. Other than the less than stellar BT021 tires, no issues. But then I've only put 8k miles on it so far.

I actually really like my ST ... it's just I've been presented with a "bargain" (def-something you don't need at a price you can't turn down)... and when I got the ST it came down to it being a bargain as the final arbiter in the FJR-ST choice. And my wife really liked the color (black).

She insists the 2010 FJR is "dull grey" (looks silver to me) ... for her good and bad in motorcycles is almost solely a function of color (except for the PC800...she declared that a "dork bike" from the get go despite color). I think the only thing that will win her over is to find a saddle tht is more comfortble for her than the Rick Meyer which I have on the ST...

I'm running Road 3s on the ST and they are my fvorite S-T tire so far... The FJR I'm going to check out appears to have Road 2s... my second favorite S-T tire...

To win your lady over, get the seat custom done by Russell. You will not be sorry.

I've had both (a Rick Mayer and my current Russells) and the Russell is much more comfortable, especially for the passenger who doesn't have some handlebars to hand onto

Bought my 2010 new last November. Absolutely no issues whatsoever. I've got 16k miles on it with one saddlesore 1000. Here's a photo with a top case by Shad (SH50) which perfectly matches the liquid silver (not dull gray) paint.

You really can't go wrong with any of the later model GENII's, from the '08s and up. As skoot mentioned, the 10's have the known issues resolved so you're pretty safe in that regard.

Good luck with the inspection, you won't be disappointed!

My 2010 has been flawless in 24,000 miles in a year and a half. I bought it new but due to an injury it sat for a year in my carport on my lift. It did get heavily farkeled for a 0 mile bike.

Russel seat is your answer, but others will say they are big or ugly, but when your ass is in it who cars what it looks like sitting empty. Your SO will love it especially if you do a good job in the pictures and explain how you want the seat to fit.

I do appreciate all the answers of the 2010 is all sorted out.

However IMHO it will still suffer the wiring issues or spider bites that any of the previous Gen II bikes that have been recalled. I installed a flavor of the auxiliary grounding harness from a forum member here and installed it with 0 miles. I have seen proof on my own spiders of corrosion and corrected it by cleaning, AC-50, then liquid tape to encase them. The wiring harness has not changed nor the gauge of wire used in it.

My 2010 also needed a clutch soak but that is a very minor chore and even with a new gasket it is really cheap to do. Maybe why the owner wants away from it?

That said I just ran it 6500 miles over 28 days and it was flawless. It did not use one drop of oil, and loaded or unloaded it was great. A few turns of the front needle valve settings, and 3 clicks down on the Penskey rear and she was a joy in the twistes unloaded.

If your gonna play Jessie James, and rob a 2010 from somebody, you cant go wrong.

I bought my 2010 three months ago and I've added 6,000 miles to the 15,000 that was on it. Not one single issue with it so far. I love the Liquid Silver and most of my vehicles over the last thirty years have been silver. My wife hates silver vehicles.

Hi T.S.

love your colour choice and the way you pack your bike for an overnighter.

Best regards

have a 10.... sadly only 9k miles so far...

flawless...

and as far as the color, i just told it was the same paint they put on the silver Mercedes Benz... seemed to work

We rode the ST1300 300 miles today to ride the FJR in question 30 miles. First off ... that liquid silver with black seat and black base of the luggage is striking ... one of the best looking motorcycles I've seen. Even my wife was surprised how good it looked. Photographs do not do it justice...This bike has been obviously cared for ... in a garage ... covered with a sheet. It looked showroom new good. Sparkly almost.

I've ridden an FJR a few times. No surprises ... except I really tried to feel ... heat. My ST definitely has heat...not bad terrible... but in July riding Texas hill country you notice it. Not like my Ducati 996 ... I don't even pull it out of the garage in July ... but you know it's there. Just cruising along I did not notice any... I mean none. Nor did my wife when we went 2-up.

There is some vibration... more than the ST ... but not bad. I mean it is a reciprocating engine ... not a turbine...it should vibrate a little. Nothing and I do mean nothing like my BSA T'bolt. Power is different than the ST ... the difference between a V-4 and an inline. It's not my bike (yet) so I didn't hammer it.

The ergos for me are great. I expected to think I needed handlebar risers or something ... but I like it just the way it is. Seat for me was...a stock motorcycle seat. Not bad at all but not wonderful. My wife had forgotten the first 15,000 mis. on the back of the ST and only remembers the last 10,000 with a Rick Meyer saddle. She has also gotten used to leaning back on the big Honda tail bag ... a Russell would be absolutely needed and something for her to lean back against.

Why the tiny windscreen? I've come to love the bigger stock Honda screen when caught out in inclement weather ... just zip it up and tuck in behind. An easily fixable situation I'm sure.

I like it. I'm not sure I like it more than my ST ... only long multiday rides could tell me that...

I just turned 24,000 on mine today....no issues and runs like a dream.

I've had 2 ST1300's...good bikes, but mine were way to hot for me (is for some and not others).

Gary
