I am in the middle of MO but ride to Independence/KC area at least once a month. Always looking for a reason/excuse to ride. I usually ride calm and mellow [SIZE=8pt]until I arrive at the twisties[/SIZE]. I normally ride east and/or south from Columbia for good roads. Are there any good roads in the KC side of the state? And just pay no attention to that Galaxy Blue guy. He is such a bad dude...trying to hooliganise you fellows.

While there may be several people listed on the map, it doesn't show how regularly they read/post. There are about 5-6 in my neck of the woods but I never hear from them. I've even posted up about a possible "Tech Day" at my house, but no one has responded.

With enough notice, I'm willing/able to get up a lil early and meet up somewhere. If the plans are to go south to GB's woods, I might bow out.

I did a nice day's ride not too long ago...rode about 330 miles round trip and got about 1/3 of that distance in nice curvy roads.

I'd be interested in doing it again with a group some time.

General route:

KC to Camdenton MO, via 71/7/etc.

North to I-70 via SR135 after about 20 miles north of Camdenton.

Once I hit 70 I just booked on home and it wasn't much fun. From about 10 miles west of Warsaw MO then up to I-70 it was nice. For this part of the state it was about as twisty as it gets that I'm aware of. The route I took had plenty of posted 40s, 45s, 50s and a few 35s. Pretty calm and sedate, right? I generally take the posted limits + 15 and I'm happy. Roads were in decent shape. Lunch at a Mexican restaurant on 54 in Camdenton was good.

There'd probably be something in the area of St. Joe then east. Maybe a meet up in St. Joe. Further for you than me but possible....at least it isn't Springfield!

I know what he means about Spfd....I went to college there and loved the area. Especially when you get south of spfd and east.

I've done that too but usually find the roads to be pretty straight unless I'm on the scenic byway route in the flint hills.

Do you know of some fun roads that you care to share?

Ever run across a good barbeque joint in Ft. Scott, KS, with "peaches" in the name? I've heard that it was great, worth the ride from KC.

Ok, seriously,you're right, most everything is straight. Sometimes after riding 40-60 miles there will be a pair of 35 MPH bends in the road, but hardly worth making it a destination.

Here's about the best I can do:

1. K-5 from I-435 to Lansing. Watch for gravel trucks and their gravel spewed onto the road, especially in the curves.

2. Mission Road heading south out of Leawood is relatively nice, but keep in mind it's also semi-residential.

3. 151st Street where it wraps around Gardner Lake has a pair of very nice sweepers, but I frequently see LEOs there.

4. K-7 at Beagle, KS, has a pair of those 90-degree sweepers that I like, but they aren't worth the ride.

5. Kill Creek Park - on Homestead Lane between 115th and 127th. The park has a nice curvy road, but watch for Park police.

6. Harmony Road along the east side of Hillsdale Lake has a very nice pair of sweepers, but look out for Park police, regular LEOs, and old men pulling boats.

7. The traffic circle on Hwy 68 just west of US-169. No kidding, one time I went around about 10 times, ever faster. That's how bad it is around here.

8. One of the interchanges where K-10 meets K-7 and where K-10 meets I-435, but I don't remember which one. Instead of the usual arc, it's an S.

Your turn...got any secret spots? Can't say that I've heard of the BBQ spot in Ft Scott.

there are just a few roads north and east of omahell that have nice sweepers and some curves. I don't know if what I'm seeing on google maps to the south are paved or not. I'll be heading south from home this weekend for a car-camping trip (first time to this area, not sure what's available so we're packing what we need and not sure we can buy locally). If I can find some of those roads towards the KC area I'll post up...but really... not much

If anyone in KC hosts a TechDay I'll show up...however, I'm just completed a TON of maintenance so I would just watch

think I've done all those, maybe not Beagle...

If I have an hour or less and just need a putt I'll head east on 71st street until I hit Swope Park and the Blue River parkway, hang a right and stay on there until you get to Martin City. The top speed is 45, it is mostly non residential, park-like with overhanging trees, some wildlife. This is for relaxin' not for racing.

If you have a day and don't mind racking up some miles do that 330 mile ride down to Camdenton MO then up North to I-70. You could even reverse it at I-70 and then take US50 home. That way you'd get over 100 miles of nice road, a couple of 35s, some 40s, some 45s, some 50 sweepers. All pretty low trafficked too.

Oh, and have you been to Alma, KS? You gotta do the scenic byway in Alma if you haven't.

If the schedule is right I'm in....half day, full day, Saturday, Sunday. I'm out of commission last weekend in June and last weekend in July but with appropriate notice I might make any other time work.
