I own a service oriented business with trucks on the road all the time and was thinking about using some type of real time tracking to better dispatch the guys to jobs, get a better grip of how much fuel is being burned up unnecessarily, how much time is being spent on the jobsite, and how much time is spent goofing off. I had tried it a couple of years ago with a different provider and the tracking wasn't accurate enough to make it worth keeping so I'm just curious if any of you out there have any experience with TELENAV TRACK. and, if so, how well it works. I currently use the Telenav GPS feature on my phone and it works really well.

One thing you will find out after tracking some empolyees is who is cheating you and who is not?

"1984 is upon us" and getting stronger every day

I worked for a company that installed tracking in the trucks. It sure makes you feel like big brother is watching you. Several guys found jobs some where else. I'm sure that some of those guys were afraid of getting caught screwing off, but I know some of them were good men that felt it was a bit much to have the boss call and ask why they were stopped at a coffee shop screwing off when in fact they were sick and using the restroom. I see the value from an owner's viewpoint, but it sure takes trust out of the picture.

I simply asked if anybody uses this tool not what people might think about its "appropriateness". I didn't want to turn it into a philisophical discussion about whether cheating slackers should be watched or not by "big brother". I imagine UPS and FEDEX are losing employees by the droves because they are being tracked by their mean bosses.... <_< I suppose you would have to be holding the business end of the pen that writes the paycheck to understand.

I've never used any of these systems, but found this review of one at CIO magazine.

I used to be the editor at a B2B supply chain magazine and found these systems to be fascinating. All the bitching from the workforce and all the claims of improving efficiency by the sales staff. I can't speak for this particular system, but the fact that so many companies are using them, I'd have to believe they are working as a general rule.
