Mount Airy, NC is too far away...but their pork chop sandwhiches at the diner and haircuts at Floyds are really great there

Close to Anderson here. Unaware of the prison you speak of. Maybe Andersonville Ga, near Americus https://www.nps.gov/ande/ ?

I dont live close, but have been to the camp.

There is a cool welcome center, and an area to walk around.

There is also a driving audio tour that was really interesting. Not sure how it would work out on a bike though.

its a pretty moving trip.
